Although there isn?t exactly the same cache around the supplemental draft, there are three interesting names being bandied about the for NFL?s supplemental draft which should be some time in the middle of July.

Paul Oliver - Considered a top talent, he was Rivals #1 prospect at CB from high school. His work against Calvin Johnson was noticed by many, holding him to just 2 catches for 13 yards in 2006. The Georgia cornerback was declared academically ineligible for the 2007 season and has decided this will be his best path to make it in the league. His coach notes that he was trying to finish his degree. An AJC writer blogs about the Bulldogs losing Oliver.

Jared Gaither - The rumor is, according to New Era?s blog that the 6′9″ 330 OT has had trouble keeping his grades up as well.

Mark Washington - From the same post as the one about Gaither, Mark Washington from Texas State (6′2″ 250) woud be projected as a linebacker

What are your thoughts? Are any of the potential entrants worth it?

I'd rule out Oliver right away, given Mangini's penchant for "smart" players.

Both Oliver and Gaither would have been academically ineligible for the upcoming season.

Gaither is intriguing to me because he has the size for great RT, if he is stump dumb then we probably would not grab him, still though if he could be a mauler and at least has feild smarts than it maybe worth it, a 3rd rounder maybe

Clements, I believe is bigger that Gaither. If anything, I would like to hear your thoughts on Oliver.

    clement is 6 ft 8, 320.

gaither is good talent but like others have said mangini and the boy scout team will never take a supplemental draft player cuz theres always a story behind them.

Gaither's talent is immense, he has run a 4.8 in the past at 6'9 340 pounds or bigger. He played TE in high school and originally intended to go to South Carolina to play basketball before football programs became interested.

The issue isn't talent or athletisicm. As a freshmen he shut down future #1 pick Mario Williams (who was a junior at the time). MD would often move Gaither to cover the opponents best pass rusher. He has played both RT and LT, and is a better LT (better pass protector).

It just seems as though Gaither didn't have the work ethic in the classroom and missed classes as it seemed he wanted to declare after this year. Upon seeing what scouts thought he would be (3rd/4th) round pick, he thought it was prudent to come back to improve his draft grade. He has only played two years of college ball, but spent a year at Hargrave Military Academy (a prep school).

That being said, I would love to use a 3rd round pick on him. I wouldn't want him to play this year, but if you can put him opposite a character guy like Brick, and with Mangold, and Pete Kendall (hopefully), I think he can learn how to be a professional. He's a young kid, and needs to grow up, but the talent is Ogden-esque.

You win some, you lose some, I guess I should have checked my own spelling while making a post about the whole issue of stump dumbness, Cheers
