That's what I was thinking as I was reading this thread...but I was doubting myself because, well, the 70's were tough on me! My memory is a bit cloudy. I seem to remember Mehl as the right OLB, not middle.
I'm glad to see that at this point there are 0 unfavorable votes. How can anyone have an unfavorable opinion of him? He didn't stay healthy long enough, but he was a fine player, and certainly a fan favorite.
He was NOT the bets LB in Jets history b/c he didn't play healthy long enough. I agree, just like w/ Freeman, if he was healthy he would have been but b/c of injuries he was not.
Sorry MHO is outside of NYJ fans NOBODY knows or remembers the name Mehl which is how U judge a players impact in the NFL. As a example say the name LT or Rice or Favre U get an instant yes I agree say the name Mehl & U get who? No matter how you choose to slice/dice it those are the facts of him & many, many, many, many other former NYJs who were just average players & never impacted the NFL in any way except to collect there paycheck. That is why only JWN & DM from the 60s are in the HOF. Just think of this 47 years in existence & we produce ONLY 2 HOF players. That says all U ever want to know why we have won NOTHING in the last 38 years & a few months
Ok, we get it, his teams didn't win a championship so he's a failure. You vote unfavorable, fair enough. I give him a thumbs up. Tough LB on some great defenses during the 80s.
-Question, was Mehl as good as Harry Carson? I say yes - probably better! -Was Mehl as good as Randy Gradishar? Better against the pass, not quite as good against the run. -Was Mehl as good as those two guys who are both in the HOF?
What U posted should be EVERY NYJ fan credo cause anything less then a CHAMPIONSHIP is a unsuccessful season
Okay, but some of us actually LIKE the Jets and can't help having favorable opinions of some of the players we ROOT FOR. Pretty intolerable otherwise.
Marino never won a SB...I bet he sucked... Kelly never won a SB...sucked... Klecko never won a SB...sucked Martin never won a SB...sucked
One of my all time favorite J-E-T-S JETS, JETS, JETS!!! He was the man back there, could hit and was a class act!
I could see U going ga ga over say a Aikman or Lewis or Butkus or Elway or Montana but a very, very, very average player like Lance sorry I just cannot understand how so many NYJ fans can accept medicore players & make them heroes in there mind
Man U R really not that silly R U? None of the players won a ring correct so since they did not acheive the ultimate they are unsuccessful. Sure they were good players but not good enough to get them the RING that says they were best of the best.
1. Those guys are all great, but they never played for the Jets, the team I ROOT FOR (except of course Mo Lewis who I don't think was as good as Mehl anyway). 2. Butkus never won a CHAMPIONSHIP, so he's clearly a failure, unless you consider his acting career. 3. I'm not old enough to qualify for medicore, is that when you get hospital services delivered by the Dead Kennedys?
I was just goofing, I know your point, and you can't argue with Butkus. The Jets website had some awesome footage of him in its Tough Guy movie series. Seriously, which Lewis did you mean?
Oh can U not C how very very silly U R? How many CHAMPIONSHIPS did Butkus win???????? The ChiBears did not win a CHAMPIONSHIP in the N-Tire time that DB was there. The ChiBears were O for DB. How can U be a good plyr if you did not win any CHAMPIONSHIPS???. This is a very silly take on your part and I question your knowledge of FB. Now moving you to the top of my SFM list based on this post, SFM.
