For those who wanted the Jets to sign him: Prospect Fails to Meet Big Expectations NEW YORK TIMES REGIONAL NEWSPAPERS Published: May 18, 2007 METAIRIE, La. ? When Walter Thomas signed a free-agent contract with the New Orleans Saints, his legend reached Paul Bunyan proportions. And on paper, that is who Thomas, a 6-foot-4, 374-pound defensive tackle, seemed like entering the team?s weekend rookie minicamp. Thomas, a recruit of Louisiana State Coach Les Miles when he was at Oklahoma State, burst onto the scene in early April. During a workout at Mississippi State?s pro day, he reportedly ran the 40-yard dash in 4.9 seconds, bench pressed 225 pounds 27 times and had a vertical leap of more than 30 inches. But the one thing Thomas ? who failed out of Oklahoma State and lasted only two games at Northwest Mississippi Community College ? never had to display before the draft was his conditioning. That came during the first day of minicamp, and it did not take Saints Coach Sean Payton long to separate fact from fiction. Exactly 12 minutes into his first workout, Thomas surrendered to the heat and went to the trainer?s room for treatment. That was when Payton cut him. ?As a free agent signed after the draft, there?s no way of measuring where he was conditioning-wise,? Payton said. ?It was a wait-and-see situation, and we saw it when we saw it.? It was a long shot for Thomas to make the team, but he was an interesting name to watch. Now it is back to reality as Thomas prepares to face a trial this summer in Senatobia, Miss., for conspiracy to commit robbery. ?I believe he was the quickest cut that I?ve been associated with,? Payton said. ?But the reality is, this isn?t easy and it isn?t for everybody. I think he fits into that.?
That's just hysterical. This is going to drive some people to the edge...and then, when Leonard Peters gets cut, people are going to snap.
I don't understand why you have to be so damn ignorant... becuase it wasn't a flip it was a..... CARTWHEEL WHOOOO HOOOOOOOOO:breakdance: Edit: I spelled cartwheel wrong......
WOW. I can't believe that happened. Who'd have thought a guy that couldn't survive on a football scholorship or at a juinior college wouldn't make it in the NFL. I only wish there were warning signs.
How can you call him an amazing talent when he was an undrafted FA and got cut 12 minutes into camp. I don't care how bad your attitude is, if you are an "amazing" talent you should be lasting longer than that.
So, where are all the Jets fans who said, "Sign Walter Thomas." http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=525753&postcount=4 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=525757&postcount=5 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=525784&postcount=10 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=525818&postcount=14 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=526058&postcount=24 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=526206&postcount=27 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=526348&postcount=28 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=526583&postcount=39 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=526628&postcount=48 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=527189&postcount=87 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=528390&postcount=95
FITM: The fact that you probably spent the last 30 minutes searching other people's posts just to bash them impresses nobody. It's not like you knew any better than they did. As far as this post goes it's just one more example of why the combine is completely overrated.
Unfortunately I don't have enough posts to create my own thread yet to warn you guys about Walter Thomas before the draft but I thought it was hysterical how bad almost everyone on here wanted him since no one knew anything about him except for the numbers that he put up in the combine but I went to school with Walter at Oklahoma State and this guy is nothing more than a dumb, lazy piece of shit and I knew there was no way he would ever make it in the NFL or another D1 team. This guy had ALL the potential in the world and threw it away. Sad thing is if he really turned his life around he could probably still have a chance at making it on a roster in the future because of his athleticism but he will end up in jail IMHO.
http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=526058&postcount=24 yea, I said hes a long long long term project...first thing he had to do was condition his body into playing shape...then he had to develop his technique into some that could allow him to play at an NFL level...I never said he was going to be phenominal, and I said he played against inferior competition... low risk, high reward...how am I being called out on that one?
Nice of you to point out to everyone that they were wrong. I suppose you've never been wrong. I'll admit it, I was wrong, but I don't really care. I read an article on the guy and though he sounded like a good guy to take a chance on, so what? I don't understand the point of your post other than to try and rub peoples faces in the dirt.
I never said that. I was just amazed at the man crush everyone had on this guy because he was a 370 pound guy who could do a cartwheel.
