I always listen to the radio broadcast on MLB radio. I'm looking forward to see what this thing looks like and how it is organized.
College Football: Popular. College Basketball: Popular. College Baseball: They actually play? Sorry, I love baseball, but I can't see how this can be a hit. In football and basketball, we've already seen these guys play, even if only on Sportscenter. It's not hard to pay attention to these drafts, and see where a favorite player winds up, and how he will fit in with his new team. In the case of baseball, you have kids from all over who are going to be picked, and never heard from again. And it's pretty well guaranteed that you won't know any of the players who don't 1) go to your school, or 2) played in the College World Series on tv. Bad idea IMO. Can't see any reason to watch.
Agreed, outside my school, and a few friends who play, i don't know any players, nor do i really care to know them.
Unless it is the beginning to actually broadcast college baseball regularly, think about it, if college football/basketball was televised as much as college baseball is right now they would be just as anonymous However, it would help if college baseball fixes their system and enables more than southern schools the ability to compete.
Bleh, I still wouldn't watch. I don't watch any college sports to begin with, but I at least watch a little football if I come across it on a Saturday afternoon. There's no way I'm watching baseball for college teams. I don't even watch pro teams that I don't have some interest in.
Oh admittedly. I just don't see how college baseball would be that popular to the general public. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person that feels that way.
Well having the draft televised, would allow people to watch some of their team's primetime prospects in the collegiate setting, aka watching a Phil Hughes to see how the kid looks like, that is one prospective that neither college football or basketball can offer
I don't know. I don't think I would have wanted to see Hughes straight out of school. I don't even watch minor league baseball. Who knows? Maybe this'll hit it big. I just can't see any reason for it. It's like a double-headed hammer. Sure, I could probably find a use for it, but why bother?
What else would ESPN2 be showing from 2 to 6? For that reason alone, it's a good idea. Better than poker reruns.
Bowling, Golf, NASCAR, spelling bees, dog show, fishing, or some other niche sport. BTW - Who is going to watch a draft where impact players won't be in the majors for at least 2 years? At least with the NHL and NBA you see some draftees play in the year they were drafted in.
I actually think this will be interesting to watch and see, although I doubt I'll ever get into it like I am with the NFL Draft.
I love it, it's about time. I don't know much about the players, but guys at nyyfans do, so I can just get info on them. Plus, if they talk about the players as they are picked, that would be great. Baseball draft is weird though because the order is based largely off of free agency, trades can't be made, and signability is as much of a factor as talent.
