We picked up this guy for a second rounder. At the time many people, myself included, thought this was a good pickup because his upside was better than any other WR we could have gotten with the pick. However, with Moss and DJack being had for 4th rounders this year, it appears that we were had. This was not a good move. It is simply more ammo that proves that Terry Bradyway was a poor GM.
You can't judge what happened then against what happened now... At the time, most said it was a good deal. This does not say Bradway was a bad (or a good) GM
Times change. Trade values change. It looks worse now, although if you poll GMs, I'm sure they would have rather had a fast and talented 6'2" guy with good character and decent production so far over Jackson or Moss at this stage. There was also a time where guys like Alexander and James and Jones would have brought in first rounders. Carolina signed Sean Gilbert to an offer sheet, giving 2 first round picks for him. Atlanta traded a first for Peerless Price.
However he was better than every single WR that could have been had for that year with the pick we traded away with the exception to Cotchery
I never liked the move, mostly because I love the draft and the second round in particular. But, at the same time, he's had some bad luck while he's been here. I'm kind of making excuses here because anyone worth a second round pick cshould be able to overcome bad luck, but he's shown flashes. I'd like to give him one more chance, but I say that knowing we're not going to get a pick in the fourth round anymore for him.
The only gripe that I had with him was that we (the fans) were told that he was a "Speed" guy and would be our deep threat. Very quickly, it was obvious that he was average at speed at best. At the time ALL our receivers were average at speed. That is what ticked me off. We were sold a bill of goods that was pure B.S. If they had told the truth, I wouldn't have had a problem with the guy although I would have felt that we gave up WAY too much for him.
dude, it happened a few years ago. you cant really compare. as far as moss being had for a 4th rounder, that probably had more to do with oakland feeling like they HAD to move him, and got what they could. the market has changed dramatically....stop looking for something to bitch about...
The trade happened before we got Kendall. Guard was a major need and we could have had any number of interior linemen available in round two. The trade never made any sense.
I actually haven't complained about anything. I think our draft this year was pretty good and I have had tons of faith in the EM, MT regime. I was just thinking about this and it pissed me off so I thought I'd post it. Chill out.
You cant compare now and then. This was a deep draft WR wise, they were all over the board every round. When we picked up JMac, there were few recievers out there. Draft wise and free agency wise. I believe TO and JMac were two of the top recievers on the market at the time.
He came in here because he had success in Heimerdinger's system. Who knows he could've been a productive player had the Herm staff stayed around.
The trade looked great when it happened because Dinger' was the new O.C. and they were in Tenn. together. That season, J-Mac wasn't so bad, but as Jetfanmack said, times change. I still don't think J-Mac is all that bad, he just isn't apart of this offense to be a #1, 2 or 3 receiver.
Herm & Co. fell in love with JMac because he torched our secondary n one game. If he could do that to our defense, of course he is worth a second rounder. There is a reason we got better after they left.
I still like McCareins too. Most people hate him but in all fairness did anybody notice how many times he was wide open last year and Pennington either overthrew him, underthrew him or just plain missed him altogether.
