if he turns out to be another version of hobson we are in trouble. I believe hobson was second round michigan linebacker whose knock on him was speed. Well the knock on harris, you guessed it, is speed. Now hobsons turned into a solid player but we traded three picks for harris.

IMO if he doesnt turn into the next marvin jones or, mo lewis (i kno im pushin it) this was a bad move. THe scouts say hes a great run stuffer and i would imagine his run stopping capabilities will perfectly compliment vilmas roaming style.

The one thing im afraid of is that tangini are describing harris alot like they described shlegel last year. Harris is described by scouts as the forgotten man of the michigan defense, because he played alongside woodley, branch, hall, so forth... harris had a very good combine and was solid his entire career but i hope mangini isnt going out of his way just to look for players who strived playing aside the likes of aj hawk or branch and so forth thinking theyre the reason for their team mates success meanwhile its much more likely to be the other way around

Seems to be two contradictary statements there. If he's a great run stuffer and makes the players around him better, then who cares if he's Jones or Lewis? David Harris will be perfectly fine. I'm very excited about this player.

Harris is not Hobson. Harris does not miss tackles, he lights people up. dont expect 8 sacks out of Harris, but expect a run stuffing right hand man for Vilma. Harris in Mel's mock was top 15. Many felt that when hobson was picked he was a bit of a reach in round 2, same for Schlegel

Expect a Marvin Jones type LB from Harris... good stuff as far as I'm concerned.

Mel Kiper has turned into the Mr Irrelevant of the NFL draft. To have somebody 15 who does not get drafted until 47 just tells you how poor his grasp of the current NFL mindset is.

I dont know much, but I know that both ILB in the 3-4 are not required to be speedsters.

I disagree. I think he pretty much knows his stuff. Theres just some things that you cannot calculate.

Harris was the number two MLB on most peoples list so, maybe everybody doesnt have a grasp.

Didn't Mayock have Harris going 12th, too?

  9. By draft day, Harris was considered the main factor of Michigan's front 7's success over Woodley and Branch. He has a real nose for the ball and delivers punishing hits. When you add in his size, he's a perfect fit for this D.

I don't question harris' talent(especially considering he came reccomended by our Lb coach who was his former DC at Michigan) i do question how far we moved up for him and how our lack of depth has not been better addressed as a result.

I don't know anybody but Kiper who had Harris above Posluzny and Beason. Sorry.

  11. Mayock had Harris right below Willis and Beason.

nfldraftcountdown had harris as the #2 ILB behind Patrick Willis. Their take on the pick: 47. NEW YORK JETS (f/GB)
David Harris ILB | Michigan | Scouting Report
A terrific value pick in the middle of round two because he could easily have gone in the first.

I watched a lot of Michigan football this past year. He was involved in virtually every play and was often the reason i percieved the UM defense to be so dominant. When you consider we run the 3-4 and have a very average at best MLB next to Vilma, this is a tremendous pick, its almost like trading our later round picks for two high firsts who can contribute right away.

harris is a good linebacker coming from a great school in michigan, i love the program they work with and the way they develop the players.

harris will contribute to the jets, and stand beside vilma in the 3-4.

hobson is also a michigan wolverine, and he is a contributer who helps the team more often than not. and to be honest i think harris will be better than hobson.

I think it's kinda unfair to compare Harris to Hobson and shlegel. What did Hobson run a 4.6 and is 6foot even. Harris is bigger and faster.

    Hobson ran a 4.5???? Hmm............... didn't know.

  18. Harris ran a 4.5

Hobson ran a 4.7 at the combine and supposively ran a 4.6 for the jets at a personal workout

Honestly what's wrong with Hobson? He's a great guy that we'll have to fill in and rotate with Bowens this year...he's been an average LB which is good enough for a 2nd round pick, considering he's not a bust. Harris looks like he'll be better though.

And if you honesty want to denounce Kiper's predictions based on Harris slipping, look at Quinn not going to Miami and Ginn going that high, who expected that?
