Even if he is motivated and he's not that old, he's not one for taking good care of himself and I wouldn't be surprised to seem him pop a hammy in the cold New England weather. Still, in terms of both speed, talent and depth, their WR receiver corps looks pretty challenging at this point when compared to ours: Pats: 1. Moss 2. Stalworth 3. Welker 4. Chad Jackson 5. Reche Caldwell 6. Jabbar Gaffney 7. Kelley Washington 8. Kevin Kight 9. Bam Childress Jets: 1. Coles, 2. Cotchery 3. McCareins 4. Smith 5. Dwight 6. Frisman Jackson 7. Wallace Wright Rome wasn't built in a day so gotta keep the faith.....
No, my stance is simple. You want to come here and talk football like an adult, fine. You want to come here and troll, make inflammatory remarks, and call people names, then I do my job. Simple! You want to push buttons with your remarks, I start pushing my control buttons.
Sadly for you guys, I think that's more wishful thinking than anything. I was listening to a Joey Porter interview, it's really astounding to see just how mismanaged that Raiders offense was. Moss had no chance to succeed and he still had 1000 yards in 2005. He's had some injury problems lately, too. His "bad" final year in Minnesota involved 767 yards in 13 games with 13 TD. He's freaky good talent and now he'll have a big ole fire lit under his ass, seeing as it'll be the first time since 2000 that he'll be in sniffing distance of the Lombardi. Good thing you guys drafted Revis.
Ok - let's look at the Patriots receivers. Randy Moss - getting old, terrible attitude. But, yes, has a lot of talent. Donte Stallworth - constantly injured. I can't remember a season when he didn't miss games. Wes Welker - give me a break. Please. If this guy was signed by anyone but the Patriots, no one would care. Give me Brad Smith any day of the week over this guy. I promise you all, there will never be a defensive coordinator saying "Oh no! Who is going to cover Wes Welker!" Just think for a second. It's Wes Friggin Welker! Who cares? You guys are so dramatic. The Jets have 2 great bruising receivers, Brad Smith is going to be better this year and he already showed signs of serious talent last year. And we'll see what happens with J-Mac. The off-season isn't over yet.
With Moss and Jackson both being traded for 4th rounders, I don't see us getting anything better than a 6th or 7th rounder for JMac (if anything). Moss will be great in New England. Exactly like Dillon was for him. Yes, both guys made life miserable for their former teams, but neither was hated by teammates and both were solid citizens when they were winning.
Half of Moss is better than most WRs in the NFL. If he gets anywhere near where he was with the Vikings, which is very likely, the Pats have a way too many weapons for defenses to cover.
It is more than a little weird that Wes Welker costs a team a 2nd and a 7th, while Randy Moss goes for a 4th. I bet the Brain Trust in NE regrets the first trade alot more than the second.
It is really a shame that so many people on this forum have their heads so far up Mangini's and Tannenbaum's asses that they can't separate fact from fiction. If you really think our front office is so great then I feel sorry for you. Somebody said what about the salary cap? Well, last time I checked they have the same salary cap as we do. Yet they can bring in Thomas and pay him a fortune, bring in Moss, franshise Samuels and pay him 9 or 10 million a year or whatever it is. What do we do? Bring in a bunch of underachieving retreads that will do absoultely nothing for this team. Then we make the biggest reach I've seen in years to move up to #14 to draft a zone CB who can't even begin to play man to man. Revis may be fine but not at #14 and what that cost us. Allowing Moss to go to NE is the final straw in my mind. Somebody said we didn't have the ammo. Of course we had the ammo, whether it was players, picks(this year or next year) we had all the ammo we needed. To allow this to happen and we all knew it was being discussed on Friday with Kraft is the most incompetent thing they could ever have done. They needed to block this no matter what. They need a lesson from the Yankees and Red Soz on how you run a franchise. the Patriots certainly know it. Go ahead and bash me, I don't really care.
687 yards for Welker as the 3rd WR on a team with no viable QB. The guy is pretty damn good. Look at the depth, man. They were a TD shy of going to the Super Bowl with Jackson, Caldwell, Gaffney. Those guys are now 4-5-6 on the Depth Chart. Not that I'm trying to shout doomsday for Jetsies. That defense is better, the young guys on offense are getting better, you've got a great coaching staff. Championships ain't won on paper, blah blah cliche, yeah, but it's true.
While I hate the thought of Moss going to the Pats, I'm not ready to hang myself yet. All those big egos on the same team (not including Belly's) will be kinda fun to watch. All of them trying to out do each other.
So basically what you are saying is that the Jets heard the rumors that the Patriots were going after Randy Moss. So, even if the Jets thought the price for Moss was too high or didn't even want him in the first place, they should have intervened and grabbed him because it was the Patriots going after Moss and not some other team. And us Tanenbaum trusters the ones with our heads up our asses. Managing an NFL team does not work that way. You don't make moves just to screw over your rival. You make the moves that best benefit your team. Rome wasn't built in a day. That's a lesson the Patriots are going to learn the hard way.
This freaking sucks....we should have cut the fat (McCariens, etc.) during free agency and gone after some of the better guys we need. I am not sure we will beat the Pats once next year now.......I say we get someone to take Moss low in Week 1 and end his season....bring things back to square one...
Jesus, I'm honestly embarassed by some of the responses on here. This thread resembles a bunch of headless chickens. Thank god some of you guys aren't willing to wet yourselves every time the Patriots sign somebody. I'm sorry if I sound pissed off, I love coming to this message board, but could everybody stop putting their hands up in the air for a few minutes?
If they want to load their team with 30 and overs, let them. They're gearing for one big run this year. Remember, they didn't get an ILB yet.
I'm not saying Welker isn't good. He is a very solid WR and a good pick-up by the Pats. What I'm saying is, because it's the Patriots and not another team that picked him up, his stock is extremely inflated. If, for example, the Panthers grabbed him, I don't think people would be making such a fuss.
Moss probably got sick of losing and wanted to go to a team that is likely to win a superbowl so his whole career doesnt end up being a bust when he looks back on it. Hence he agitates to move to the Patriots. Probably have the same success with him as they did with Dillon. No point hating them just because they make the smart moves that anyone laying fantasy football can see but which the people that run football teams seem to find beyond them.
