Moss contract restructure aside, does anyone know NE's cap status? I'm reaching for something positive here.

Yep, 14-2 and a trip to the Super Bowl. Moss is just a small part of that but there's a point at which even small parts have an enormous cumulative effect.

I'm more depressed about the Jet's chances to catch the Pats than I've been since 2004.

Sources: Moss trade to Pats has open issues remainingBy Len Pasquarelli
    ESPN.com

The New England Patriots have reached a trade agreement in principle to acquire wide receiver Randy Moss from the Oakland Raiders for a fourth-round round choice in Sunday's second day of the NFL draft.

There are still details to be completed, including Moss passing a physical examination by the Patriots' medical staff, but league sources said they expect the deal to be competed. As part of a trade, Moss would restructure and perhaps even extend his current contract, which calls for base salaries of $9.75 million in 2007 and $11.25 million in 2008.

Oakland and New England officials conducted on and off negotiations for the last several days. The Raiders, who acquired Moss from Minnesota in 2005, have been shopping the wide receiver much of the offseason.

Moss, 30, has not participated in any of the offseason conditioning sessions conducted by first-year head coach Lane Kiffin and the suspicion is that he would not show up for the start of training camp.

Acquiring the once-explosive Moss would perhaps be the defining moment of an offseason in which New England coach Bill Belichick and personnel chief Scott Pioli have worked to dramatically upgrade the team's receiving corps. New England added former Miami wideout Wes Welker in a trade and signed unrestricted free agents Donte Stallworth (Philadelphia) and Kelley Washington (Cincinnati).

In nine seasons, Moss has 676 receptions for 10,700 yards and 101 touchdowns. He is coming off a 2006 season in which he played in 11 games and registered 42 catches for 553 yards and three touchdowns, career lows in all those categories.

Moss wanted to play with Brady and would only restructure if he got his wish. So that killed Oakland's leverage to deal him to other teams. It almost acts like a no-trade clause.

Don't you have a Patriots board to post on? With your new receiver, I'm sure you would rather hang out with your own kind. Your slight inflammatory remarks are not needed here. I'm sure your happy about your trade for Moss, now run along.

I was just going to say that we picked the right time to draft a first round cornerback.

When the Patriots enter the meadowlands for the first game of the season, since they last beat us 37-16, we will have added Revis, Harris, and Thomas Jones. The Patriots will have added Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, Wes Welker, Adalius Thomas, Brandon Meriweather, and Harrison will be back. That seems a bit uneven.

I hope they implode, yuch, just bitter I guess, Belichek never wants to lose to us again

I think the Patriots are more concerned with Indy and San Diego. They don't lose much sleep over a somewhat meaningless loss to the Jets in the regular season.

So the threats come because I do not share the same likes as you as a sports fan? I would expect better from a "MOD" of this board that should encourage outside views, opinions, and facts..

Let me just reiterate what must've been said here 1000 times.

For only a fourth! Holy crap.

Well, we can still compete for the WC, right?

When was the last time Randy Moss did something impressive? And don't play the "He hasn't had a QB in 5 years" card. The guy is a has-been. And he has admitted that he doesn't always play as hard as he can. Bellicheck is a great coach but there's no getting through to an idiot like Moss.
