The Jets are smaller than the Pats right now. We need to work on that and any draft that makes that balance worse not better is a disaster. This is not Denver, you don't win games by being light and quick.
I am worried about the Jets. I saw us sign Kenyon Coleman as our big pick-up on defense this season while the Pats were signing Adalius Thomas. That has me worried.
OK, but if the Jets do not fill this need, I could see Vilma having another subbish-par season and I could see the Jets being below 20 against run.
When you start drafting based on what another team is doing instead of what your specific needs are, that is when you begin to reach for players IMO.
There are multiple ways the Jets could resolve the NT position: 1. Keep D-Rob and see if another year in the system has made him a better fit at NT. He has the body for it but last year was his first year in a 3-4. 2. Trade-up a bit to grab Alan Branch if he drops significantly below where he's projected right now between 10 and 13. 3. Trade down from the 25 to the early 2nd round and pickup Justin Harrell, a big 3-4 DE to support D-Rob more. Harrell can also play DT when the Jets use a 4-3. 4. Trade down from the 63 a bit and pickup Turk McBride, another good sized 3-4 DE who can also play DT in the 4-3 sets. 5. Use the 89 pick on Tank Tyler who is probably the best NT prospect after Branch. 6. They could explore a trade with Pittsburgh who is considering moving from a 3-4 to a 4-3 this year. Casey Hampton plus something for D-Rob. Maybe Hampton and the 15 for D-Rob and the 25.
Again, you are obsessed with the pats. I couldn't care less what they did. If they make a move, doesn't mean I have to make a reactionary move. That's Yankees Mentality.
Until the Jets stop getting pushed off the line of scrimmage by the Pats and the Bears and the other big teams in the league I'm going to remain obsessed about getting bigger on the fronts. That's just the way it is.
I would add: 7. Do nothing. Pouha and Tui Alailefaleula will be back from injury. 8. Wait until June 1 or late into training camp to see what shakes from the tree. I don't think they'll touch Tyler, given quesitons about his motor and character. But stranger things have happened, I guess.
Tui Alailefaleula was realased because of an injury. I hope the Jets sign him again, but it's not sure he will be in NY when the TC starts.
The last word on Tui Alailefaleula was IR. He is not listed on NFL.com, NFLEurope.com or NFLPlayers.com as being in the league currently. He may be a street free agent, but I guess we'll see. "August 30, 2006 Announced running back Curtis Martin will begin the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list; activated center Trey Teague from the PUP list; placed defensive tackle Tui Alailefaleula on injured reserve."
I started a thread on him and baamf found this link http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL/AFC/AFC+East/NY+Jets/Transactions/2006/transoct.htm
