New England continued stockpiling Pro Bowl talent, reaching agreement with free-agent cornerback Tory James on a one-year deal worth about $1.3 million dollars -- with a chance to earn another $1.4 million in incentives. James opted for New England primarily due to the Patriots' winning tradition and his rapport with head coach Bill Belichick, who will know just how to use the cornerback who has intercepted at least four passes in each of the past six seasons. Right now, New England does not plan to start James. But he provides valuable insurance with the unsettled contract situation of Asante Samuel, whom the Patriots franchised earlier this offseason. James becomes the latest big-name addition in New England, joining linebacker Adalius Thomas, tight end Kyle Brady, running back Sammy Morris, and wide receivers Donte Stallworth, Wes Welker and Kelley Washington. http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/10033511
Wow, you guys are higher on him than I, am I missing something? I look at him as depth, which for us, you can never have enough DBs.
Considering he made the pro bowl 3 years ago you can't really call him a pro bowl talent.Patriot ball washing by the media at work.
Solid pickup. Really, what else can be said? I am curious as to how all of these additions will effect the Patriot's locker room. You have more than half a dozen pickups in FA plus ten draft picks. Though you could argue that all of these veterans are being brought in specifically to tutor their draft class, which I think may end up being the true reason behind all of these signings. You know, like an Adopt a Rookie program or something.
Yes, clearly the media is going ga-ga over this signing. Ball-washing? I don't follow. I think your statement is franchise-envy at work. You got a good team now, no need to still beat this tired drum. I'll be the first to admit this signing is very average, but let's not do the "media" thing for the 1,000th time. In this case they are just stating he was a Pro-Bowler. I don't see how his signing with the Pats negates this fact and wouldn't be included in any AP-type of article.
Hey the media keep going over the top about the patriots then i'll keep going over the top with my patriot bashing. And they actually said he was pro bowl talent,as if he's a pro bowl player.
James is very solid. I didn't even know that he was a UFA. Otherwise i would have been advocating his signing by the Jets. He's old but a 1-year contract to fill a hole and mentor younger CBs would have been great for the Jets... I've always been a fan of his.. very surprised to hear this given i thought he was still w/ the bengals.. not at all surprised the pats got him.
Um, the source who wrote that is the NFL. Not the media. And I can't fault a company for wanting to pump up it's product. No one else is going overboard on this signing.
I'd say it's still media seeing as they do provide news and inform the masses of football fans.Either way it's horrible reporting. Perhaps I did make a mountain of the mole hill, but i'm a bit fed up of the pats can't do no wrong thing. They've made some questionable moves this off-season yet no-one seems to be pulling them up about, trying to make it look like they've just signed a pro bowl player got me a bit pissed.
Well, you're OK in my book. Didn't mean to call you out, but I respect your honest answer. Cheers!
Samuel still hasn't signed the Pat's tender offer. With James in the fold now and NE's 2 first round picks you have to wonder if they don't plan a mega move up in the draft. For what, I have no idea but that gives them a ton of leverage if they decide that's what they want to do.
I'm pretty sure that Tory James had a higher end-of-season Madden rating than anyone else that would be opting for the #2CB job in New England. That's all I need. Really. I bet Pioli consulted the same roster file I did.
