BuffaloBills.com beat writer Chris Brown is "hearing" that the Chargers are willing to part with Michael Turner for an early second-round pick. It was believed earlier this offseason that Turner could only be had for a first-rounder, so it's possible GM A.J. Smith has lowered his asking price. The Texans, Browns, Bills, and Falcons could have interest.
Oh wow... I mean not that I have anything against Jones...but over the next 4-6 years it's easily Turner > Jones IMO. Someones going to get very lucky to have this guy starting for them...hope its not the Bills.
^ knock on wood you jinxing bastard i would have preferred jones, we gave away virtually nothing for now, and we dont know how good tuner will be as a starter.. for the jets: Jones/ bears 2nd round pick>Turner/no pick given back
^ Coudln't agree more. I'll take a proven workhorse for nothing more than moving down 20 or so spots than an unproven backup with nothing in return.
Yea but...we're running a two back system in which both backs get alot of carries no? I doubt Jones gets a full starters load either. Plus, given his size, build, and power...I think Turner could handle a big load pretty easily. To me he's what everyone thinks/thought McGahee would/should be.
Neither did LT when he was draft...or Larry Johnson when he took over for Priest Holmes...or Priest Holmes when he became an All Pro... Or any other RB ever until the were given the chance... Seriously theres a logical fallacy on both sides...but considering the scouting side (size, power, speed, he actually makes guys miss AND breaks tackles)...I see the worse logic to be the "well he's never done it." Neither have alot of guys (ie. ALL RBs) until they got the chance. Jones never took a full load until 2005 (300+)...now he's like our savoir.
this is a kick in the balls...turner is a great back and is still young with no mileage on him...i would much rather have turner for the next 5-6 years than jones for the next few...but what r u gonna do about it now
But it's a far greater risk to take a guy who has yet to start...you could also argue that the next rookie back to break 1000 yards could be anyone, but so what? That's like saying the guy down the street has a chance at winning the lottery... The fact of the matter is, it's more of a guarantee to get someone who has started and done a good job, against someone who hasn't started, has not proven he can even catch the ball well, etc. And yes I like Turner, but look at the difference between Lamont here as a backup and then as the feature back=injury problems, decent numbers, but not worth the money (value) given up. There are always more hits than misses in professional sports. But when you can get someone who has more experience, what appears to be a good amount of gas left in the tank, why gamble with a higher risk of losing?
Of course theres risk dude. Theres ALWAYS risk. The draft is a risk, trading for young, unproven guys is a risk, trading for older vets is a risk, its a matter of weighing the risks. Considering his physical and seeming mental aspects, Turner doesn't seem like the high risk people want to paint him to be. . Agreed, but to a point. Theres the whole part about age, medical history, and so on. 1. Jordan was not bad his first season...far from it. I made a post a while back on it, but I think he came close to 20% of Oakland's 2005 offense. 2. Lamont's attitude led him to reporting out of shape, and then getting hurt. Turner has not shown anything close to that kind of attitude by all accounts. 3. Why not mention the many other backups (Holmes, Taylor, Tiki, Parker, LJ,and so on) that have gone on to succeed? Fact is...Turner is much less of a risk than people are making it look. Whether giving up a 2 is too much for him is up for debate, but I don't see how people can actually argue that "he hasn't done it, therefore he can't and we shouldn't be the ones stupid enough to try and see" can take that seriously once they think it through. I can't complain about the Jones trade...this is coming out way after the trade and maybe we drove the price down. Still Turner with #37 is a far better value than Jones for #37...even if we don't have the other second rounder. Of course, I'm one of those crazies who never bought that the Chargers actually wanted a first and a third, since thats just the tender that has to do with RFA...they could have traded him for peanuts if they wanted. I always thought their ultimate asking price was a second.
im happy wit jones...dont see whats so special about turner....if anything it'll happen on draft day....watch
