see alot of talk now about leinart possibly ending up with the jets but we need to keep a few things in mind here.... first and foremost - he is a good QB who excelled in a system with mucho talent around him. there is a very good chance he plays well in the nfl. how well?? i am not sure cause there are some concerns such as mentality and his being a southpaw. you read that right - a lefty - and yes that is a concern. i posted this comment a couple weeks ago and it was goofed at by some shrewd poster but it IS a legitimate concern. i do not fully understand why but there appears to be a tendency for the ball to float a bit coming out of a lefties grip - especially into the wind or with crosswinds out there. Now if his arm strength is not stellar this could become an issue especially in the bad weather stadiums. go ask esiason how it is - go ask brunnell how it was to throw in giants stadium during the 98 playoff game. and both those guys, IMO had a stronger arm than leinart coming out of college. bottom line - the jets have to be sure about this guy to even entertain trading up. if they plan to use a pats style offense with most of the passes being the 10-25yd variety than he should succeed. But if leinhert is expected to hit the deep out or the 35 yard seam route in giants stadium in mid december - than we need to think twice about mortgaging a few picks to move up. jil
I will jump on this by saying this is a very good point. With a lefty at the helm another thing to consider is this.................your blindside tackle has to play on the wrong side. It may not be easy to find somebody capable of switching. It also raises the other question about the rest of your QB staff likely being righty. You can see what kind of coaching challenges this immediately creates both in a real game situation as well as constructing meaningful practice sessions for the whole QB staff........it is serious food for thought, especially for a young head coach and staff.

no i know your not and your one of the few posters i pay attention to. i can be labeled as the biased idiot who doesnt like leinart ill wear that nametag with a smile i think all top 3 qb's in this yrs draft are questionable to be honest.
The short list of accomplished lefty quarterbacks includes Kenny Stabler, Boomer Esiason, Steve Young, Mark Brunell and Michael Vick and now Chris Simms. I'd like to see Leinart in a Jets uniform.
Concerns me. I am not anti-Leinart, but I dont want him. Lefty is an issue, and arm strength is a question. Throwing in the Meadowlands is not like throwing in So Cal. Maybe I am old fashioned, but I want a QB with a CANNON! I have concerns with Leinart about losing as well. He was a bit of a dope after the Texas game if I remember correctly, and I could envision him being very apathetic after a few bad games. No real idea if this is an issue, but something that crossed my mind.
Thats why I like Cutler better. Similar production with Zero talent around him, and I will bet Leinart, much like Chad, is not going to like getting knocked around, at this level, never having had it happen at the College level.And he was slinging it at about 60MPH at the combine.
Woah....I think you're getting ahead of yourself by putting Chris Simms, Michael Vick and Brunell in with that list. Where's Jim Zorn? Bobby Douglass? Frankie Albert?
I have read (in the PFW draft preview) that Leinart has had two surgeries performed on that left shoulder. That would concern me more than him simply being a lefty. Anyone know how serious those surgeries were?
