Well it looks like it is down to Ramsey, Schaub and the big 3 in the draft. IMO that provides us with 5 fantastic options. Let me begin with the guys we missed out on. First Culpepper. While he has had a really good career, last year exposed some of his weakness having to deal with no more Randy Moss and a porous o-line. Add on top of that a devastating knee injury and I'm pretty glad he isn't coming here. Second Brees. Haven't we seen enough shoulder issues? Good luck in the big easy. Then there was Kitna. Now I really like him as a player, but at 33, I just didn't see the point in signing him....it didn't solve a problem.

So, that brings us back to the other 5....in my opinion THE BEST 5 all along.

Patrick Ramsey: I think Ramsey was never given a fair opportunity to succeed with the Redskins. A change of scenery could be a great fit for a "smart/tough" player.

Matt Schaub: Schaub is another young (24) player that has a huge upside. While his regular season play has been limited, I've watched him play a fair amount in the preseason and was VERY impressed.

Matt Leinart: Leinart would be great for us and if he happens to be there for us at 4 (and we haven't traded for Ramsey or Schaub)....let's take him. However, having so many other QB options, I think it is crazy to trade up. We can do more good things for the team staying put or trading down.

Vince Young: Young is perhaps the most intriguing option. While his stock is a little inflated, he is a heck of a competitor and a winner. I would not lose sleep taking him at 4.

Jay Cutler: Now Cutler has been a popular choice around here. I would have no problem with him, but ONLY if we trade down. He does not provide comparable value to other options at 4 (Furgeson, M. Williams, Hawk).

So my conclusion is that we are looking at several very good options available to us. However, I only want ONE of these options implemented....if we get Ramsey or Schaub, we should not draft a QB in round one.

I like every option I list above. I'll be pleased if any one of these is implemented.

Dunno. Ramsey seems to be your best option. You can get him relatively cheap, and after wallowing in Wash, he will be eager to please.

I do think you will draft a QB in the draft, but I think it might be a second day draft pick

What is the story with Josh McCown, i thought he was available. Also, I know most on here would hate it, but Kerry Collins, given protection, he can throw the crap out of the ball, and he knows the meadowlands, which is no small feat. I am not saying he is our saviour, just that he should probably be in the discussions.

McNown was in Oaktown yesterday....have not heard it the Raiders made an offer. I would think they will, since the two QB's on the roster have 2 career starts.

As for KC, contrary to popular reports, the Raiders are NOT in the middle of negotiations to resign him. Kerry has had almost no play in the market so far, but rumor has it that he will visit Baltimore soon.

The reason I did not include McCown is that there does not appear to be any serious interest from the Jets. However, I would consider him another acceptable option. KC is another "going nowhere" pick. I don't see any benefit in getting him. Every other option I mentioned (plus McCown) has the potential to be a long-term solution. KC is not...just like Kitna.

I agree with most of your post DBJ. Only I don't consider Ramsey the long term solution.. If we trade for him I would still try for one of the QBs in the draft. I've been screaming for awhile about drafting a QB this year in the first and I would still probably just go that route but I am very high on Shaub and if we could make that deal for him and a 2nd for Abe we just have to do it. I agree we are in a good position to get our QB of the future, I just don't see Ramsey in that category.

One name has not been mentioned at all through this whole thing and that is Brian Griese.
I am by all means no big Griese fan and the reason he was cut by the Bucs was due to his $8 mil price tag but if you are looking for that grizzled vet who can start and has experience, he may just be the guy.
I would pick him over Kerry Collins, Gus Frerotte and any other Vet on the market.

If we trade up to #2 with the Saints, we'll have Leinart because Reggie is gone to Houston. If we stay at 4, we get Young or possibly Leinart.

Pre-draft..I don't think it is neccessary to pick up a QB yet, but if any I'd say Shaub.

I can understand the reluctance about Ramsey, but I believe if the Jets pull the trigger and acquire him, there will be a lot of pleasantly surprised Jet fans. His history in Washington is a weird one. When he was drafted, it was pretty clear he was not Spurrier's choice. Then Spurrier kept yanking him in and out of the lineup for 2 years. How is a kid gonna develop and gain confidence if he is constantly looking over his shoulder (in 2002 it was Wuerrfel and Matthews and it 2003 it was Tim Hasselbeck)? When Gibbs came in, he was determined to put "his guy" Brunell in. So, in 4 years, Ramsey has been shuffled in and out of the lineup. If he can enter a stable situation with good coaching, he has the potential to be a very good NFL QB.

And what's great is that Leinart played in a big market, he'll definately be more prepared.

We should stay at th #4 pick. At least two of the best 3 quarterbacks will be there when it's our turn to pick and that will create tremendous draft day demand to trade up. We may be able to pick up 3 or more additional picks by trading down as teams in the heat of the moment want to trade the farm for a QB...

Read today that the Jets contacted McCowen and he had no interest with the Jet QB position/situation.

LA is not NY (I've lived in both). Anything he saw in LA from a media/fan standoint will provide no preparation for NY. For what its worth, LA is quite possibly the worst sports city of the major markets. NY, Boston, Chicago and Philly are the real deal. After that other cities may be passionate about an individual sport (Washington - football, Salt Lake City - Basketball, St. Louis - Baseball, Denver - Football), but they are not great sports cities in general.

I'm still not "sold" on Ramsey yet. Right now, I would much rather see the JETS start anew with a young up and comer.

If we get Ramsey then we should take either D'brick or Aj Hawk. If not, then we got to go with Leinart at #4 if we can get him there. But no Cutler, please no.

I agree, but that means he's also more prepared than most. He's walked the red carpet, been on national TV more than any college football player maybe ever.

I still like the idea of nabbing Ramsey, and retaining Abe...then possibly trade up or down, if down get AJ Hawk, and trade Abe for another 1st...if up then trade Abe and our 1st to the texans for their first and their 3rd...then draft Bush...i still love bush and want to see him in green and white!! after all the reggie bush sweepstakes hype has died down...im still a huge fan

Refreshingly subdued title. Good post. I would love to see Vince Young as our new QB. If the Jets ARE going to be a non playoff team for the next few years, Young will certainly make sure that the Jets offense will be entertaining to watch. Whether we're a good team or not, Young will be eyepopingly exciting. The Bollinger run offense last year was the most bored I've EVER been watching the Jets play. It was the only time in MY history watching the Jets that I ever turned off a game. Young would be amazing to behold as our signal caller.

Ugh. I'll never write another unpretentious title again.
