A great running back, a great insurance policy quarterback and a 2nd round pick? Nice. :)

    RANT WARNING

Not to mention we were like 25 MILLION OVER THE CAP LAST YEAR!!!!! So what does a good GM do? Clean out old, overpaid players, bring in some high character players depth players to mentor the EXCELLENT young players that he drafted. Considering we were expected to go 2-14 and went 10-6 how can you say he wasnt successful??? The Barlow trade was his only real bad move and the effects are pretty minimal. (it was also a pretty good value at the time considering the circumstances we were in).

He STOLE a second rounder from the skins. Not to mention on top of the players he drafted that excelled this year Eric Smith and Kellen Clemens are potential starters as well down the line. He hired a coach that wants smart, tough football players and has delivered those to him with great success so far. Now he is locking up key players that fit the teams culture and adding veterans at a reasonable price.

Perhaps we should have signed lavar arrington to an 80 million dollar contract? Or we should have signed a bust like Leonard Davis to a 50 million dollar contract when someone like Marc Columbo is arguably a better player at a cheaper price. Probably the smartest thing this regime looks for in their players is looking for players that "football matters to them". Pacman Jones might be the most talented CB in the league...hows that working out?
I have never had more confidence in the future of the Jets than I do now because of that.

Was Kimo a great presence on the field? No. But his influence on a young defense like ours is invaluable in the locker room. I'd argue that Dwayne Robertson might know a lot more about being a professional because of someone like that. We dont always see what builds a successful team from the stands. Matt Chatum's impact may not have shown up in the sack column but when maybe when he was helping Bryan Thomas with the nuances of the 3-4 in practice. Then he added VALUE players like Andre Dyson to compete for starting positions. Thats the smart way to play free agency. Not the credit card mentality.

If signing big names was the way to success than the redskins would always be undefeated. Look at the oakland raiders!!! Google "raiders 2005" after they get Moss and Lamont and you will probably see articles talking about their potential as the BEST offense in the league. How'd that work out?

The proof is in the pudding. Tannenbaum, took a 4-12 team, cleaned house, put in a smart disciplined regime with players that fit the mold and now we are in an excellent cap position with an emerging young team that has a true IDENTITY and grasp on what it means to be successful. That worked out was a certain team that plays up in New England the last time I checked.

If I could choose one GM for my team today to start a franchise I would chose MIKE TANNENBAUM without hesitation.

    ...but I digress

Even Barlow payed dividens against the Pats in Foxboro. As useless as he turned out to be otherwise, he was instrumental in helping the Jets win a game that they needed for more reasons then just the wildcard. I'd gladly trade a few million dollars in cap space every year to beat the Patriots.
