Its on ESPN insider , which I no longer have so if someone could get the rest of the story..... #95 Tim Bowens | DT Full Name: Timothy L. Bowens Born: February 7, 1973 Okolona, MS Height: 6-4 Weight: 325 lbs. Age: 34 Pos: DT Experience: 12 years College: Mississippi This phrase seems to come up alot with him "Did Not Play"
# 96 David Bowens Position: DE Height: 6-3 Weight: 265 Born: 07/03/1977 College: Western Illinois NFL Experience: 8 He would probably get moved to OLB. otes: An All-America pass-rushing linebacker in high school. Played at Michigan in 1995 and ’96. Had 30 tackles and four sacks as a freshman outside linebacker. Started 11-of-12 games and led Michigan in sacks with 11 in ’96, when he was a stand-up, pass-rushing outside linebacker. Did not play in ’97 and was not eligible at Western Illinois until the third game of the ’98 season. An instant-impact player at Western Illinois who had 134 tackles, 37 tackles for loss and 14 sacks (including playoff games) while playing as a down defensive end. Was named to the All-Gateway Conference team and honored as the Gateway’s Defensive Newcomer of the Year. Positives: Fine athlete. Has good functional football strength. Plays much faster than he times. Excellent pass rusher coming off the edge. Has a great burst up the field and the range to chase plays down. Was dominating as a sophomore at Michigan. Is athletic enough to play up. Negatives: May be a bit of a DE-OLB tweener now but, at Michigan, looked athletic enough to be a ’backer. Has rarely dropped into coverage and is too small to hold the point vs. the run as a down lineman. Summary: A mobile, athletic player who can make an impact rushing the passer.
I'd take Bowens. The more solid OLBs we can get the better, set up a nice roation to keep them all fresh all game long.
Jets | Bowens to visit team Monday Mon, 5 Mar 2007 10:21:18 -0800 Updating a previous item, Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports free agent DE David Bowens (Dolphins) will meet with the New York Jets Monday, March 5, according to a source.
By Tom Rock: DE David Bowens met with the Jets today – as of 5 p.m. they were still meeting, in fact -- and his agent Harold Lewis said Bowens was very impressed with the Jets and their direction. He also said the Jets have told him that they are equally impressed by Bowens. Sounds like a match made in heaven! Do we have a deal? No. The next step is to work out an offer and an acceptance – something both sides seem to want – and finalize a contract. That won’t happen until Tuesday at the earliest, Lewis said. But it sounds as if Bowens will soon be wearing the Green and White of the Jets
I'm concerned he doesn't even have a player card on ESPN, but from NFL.com, #96 David Bowens Position: DE Height: 6-3 Weight: 265 Born: 07/03/1977 College: Western Illinois NFL Experience: 8 His stats for the past 3 years are decent: Games Played - 48 Tackles - 85 (60 Solo) Sacks - 18 Pass Defenses - 11 He's no world beater, but he is certainly servicable. I could only assume he'd play OLB for us, likely as a backup to Barton.
11 sacks the last two years as a backup... I think he would do a very nice job as a situational pass-rusher at OLB in this defense.
