The Jets have tried to acquire Redskins running back Ladell Betts in a trade but a potential deal fell through, according to someone with knowledge of the discussions between the teams. The person requested anonymity because of the sensitive nature of trade talks.

Wow,that is disappointing. I hope it's only because the Jets only offered a fruit basket for him.

The Redskins probably wouldn't back off of Vilma. Glad to see the Jets won't part with him.

but Vilma AND a fruit basket, that would have sealed the deal. Backs like Betts are a dime a dozen - I would rather take a shot at someone in the fifth round than trade for Betts

He's more proven as a starter than Turner would be. He's still young (28 when the season starts, with only 566 career carries), and he had 245 carries for 1154 yards (4.7 YPC) this year with 6 carries of 20+ yards. Plus, he's already locked up for the next 4 or 5 years, I believe.

well i dont know about the "proven starter" only when portis gets injured or takes a break do i see him and does pretty good....but thats cuz alot of defenses arent prepared for him. I would much rather keep the picks and draft someone....turner and betts arent all that good in my eyes

28 is not young. If you're going to give up anything significant for a running back, 25 is the cutoff. When the Redskins got Portis, that was a reasonable deal.

Betts has never been a full-time starter. In my opinon, a RB is all about mileage. Would you rather have a 27-year-old Jamal Lewis or a 28-year-old Betts?

I just can't understand the Redskins entertaining the notion of eating another signing bonus. What is more difficult to comprehend is how all their wheeling-and-dealing and big-money FA signings the past few years hasn't caught up to them...is it really just the increase in the salary cap that has insulated them?

Dude, you got me with that 1

I agree.. Betts is a Decent player but if we're gonna make a Trade for a Franchise back, that's not the place to look.

    +PLUS+

You know the Foreskins are Greedy and especially after all the Fleecing and Hoodwinking they did on Bradway in Years past

I wanted Betts a few years ago, I thought he'd be good but I never thought he'd be as good as he was last year. When all the Bailey & Ellis rumors were out I always thought a fair deal was Ellis & Jordan for Champ and Betts. I love Shaun but too bad that didn't happen.

Disappointing? Who would you rather have? Turner in exchange for a first round pick?
Betts was a monster towards the end of last season.

WORD. I think he is over-rated...I'd rather go for Corey Dillon or Ahman Green

How awesome would have been if one of those trades went down and we had Champ Bailey right now? :breakdance:

Betts has a VERY cap friendly figure for 2007 and 2008. I think his 2007 number is only $595,000. I like Betts way more than washed up Dillon or Green. I bet the Skins were wanting something around a 2nd rounder for him, considering his low salary.

Damn, I don't like that we are trying so hard to pursue a RB.
