OK Jets' fans.....We've all observed Miller being toasted in pass coverage!!!

Reason.....he can't backpedal fast enough to keep up with WR's & so always

has his back to line of scrimmage. I recommend moving Miller to SS; there he

will line-up with the play always coming in front him. He has demonstrated

an abilty to hit & tackle....& could also blitz more from that position. This

would overall, increase the speed at the Safety position & of the defense.

With Rhodes & Miller as Safeties....Jets' would have tremendous speed in

there last line of defense & a combo that can play together for quite a few

    years.

And who sits at safety?? Safety is one of the Jets' deepest positions. There is no room for Miller.

He's a lousy tackler and he's only about 5-9 and not too big.

Erik Coleman and Eric Smith are pretty good by me.

for all the same reasons, he's better and more reliable as a nickel back than as a starter.

    Erik Coleman = 5'10" 200 lb

    Justin Miller = 5'10" 196 lb

Is 4 pounds really going to make a difference?

Well Coleman is probably a stronger guy than Miller. Plus, Miller is a really lousy tackler. You can't be a lousy tackler and play Strong Safety.

Erik Coleman is 5x the safety Justin Miller ever would be.

People always make the mistake of assuming that CB's who can't cover but run fast will make good safeties because the play is in front of them. The facts are that the players who make the transition well from CB to safety tend to be the players who CAN cover well but are a step slow to be on an island on the outside. They also tend to be the players who have excellent tackling technique and can really benefit from having the play in front of them so they can hit even harder than they can at the outside.

Miller absolutely does not fit the description of an NFL safety right now, strong or free.

just keep him at cornerback, but if we had a few schemes the hey was a safety in, i would be alright with that

I agree with that. We have a ton of depth at safety and wouldn't benefit by switching Miller full time, but subbing him in for Coleman/Smith every once in a while would add more speed to the safety position and (if run effectively) may take a passing game out of funk.

But remember, Miller has enough trouble adjusting to being a pro corner, and learning a new position may be a little to much to ask for.

    No.

Coleman and Rhodes are perfect, and we have great depth.

hey lets not spaz out again like last time and get banned.

i bet if you looked up every corner and every saftey the average height for corner would be bigger.

We all knew going in JM would be a project at CB, and he made some improvements at CB late last year believe it or not.....I still have faith our coaching staff will get him to play at a higher level, but the clock is ticking.....

As for him as a safety, idk, why not try him out a little?? He hits hard enough no doubt for a safety and he is rock solid strong, but he has to learn better tackling fundamentals before we can consider him as a starter at a position where you must be able to tackle and wrap up......The guy has ballhawk skills in him as evidenced by his very high career INT's at Clemson, so I guess it could work maybe.......

I would really like to see us get him on the field in different packages on Defense in order to utilize his speed as a suprise blitzer and also a Nickelback/Safety roamer in the middle.....I think he could succeed at that position if he was coached up enough, moving him around and blitzing him alot....Mangini has some ideas for Justin Miller I think, the guy has loads of talent, he just has to put it all together......sooner or later it will click, I hope

I bet you are wrong-- a big corner is 6'1 205 a big safety is 6'3 230. Lets be honest here buddy. Is this the point where you name me the 5 smallest Safetys, and the 5 biggest corners?

I dont really pay attention to exact heights. maybe i just think that because corners are more lenky and safetys are stocky. (usually, not always obviously.)
