From today's Star Ledger article about Jets targeting CBs: "Leon Hall (Michigan), Daymeion Hughes (Cal), Aaron Ross (Texas) and Marcus McCauley (Fresno State) are among the top cornerbacks in the draft. Hall is projected to be long gone by the 25th pick. But if Hall is the Jets' guy, they might be willing to move up by packaging one of their second-round picks in a deal." I love these writers who have us giving away a 2nd round pick to move up a few spots...ridiculous, and I don't think the Jets would do that. Now, maybe to take Alan Branch....
Everything I have seen says Hall is dropping big time, maybe even out of the first. Anyway I do not want to draft a CB in the first round. They take to long to develop & we already have a couple young guys with potential. I'm hoping a CB like Clement is our main FA target..
I am not high on Hall like many others are. As a 2nd round CB I love him..but to me...he's nothing more than a potential "good" # 2 cb, rather than a solid #1 which any CB taken in the 1st round should project to be. W/ that said, if a guy like Houston and Revis are there at #25, and they are the BPA..by all means, we should pull the trigger.
I think one of the CBs that I would want--Ross, Hughes, Revis, McCauley--will probably be there in the first second round pick anyway, so I would look to address another need in the first round.
I think we need to add a CB with potential to the mix. We have a couple of young guys there but no Guarantee that any of them will become a quality starter. I don't think we need to spend a first but if one of our second rounders is a CB I would be fine with it.
Willing to Trade UP in a draft where the CB talent it lacking and where whatever CB talent there is seems to be slipping? Willing to Spend TWO picks on one questionable player????? What the hell, does this writer think Terry Freaking Bradway is back? This writer should lose his job right now. Go become Bradways assistant somewhere or something.
I would prefer a DE in round one, but I don't know of any that we could draft that would fit the 3-4 scheme. Aaron Ross at 25 would be a good pick, I just feel our front 7 needs alot of work.
Leon Hall is absolutely garbage. I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole. Every time I saw this guy match up with someone of quality he looked utterly lost. I would spend a high pick on a corner were one I really liked available, but none of these guys really blows me away. I have no problem going out there with Dyson, Poteat, and Miller vying for a spot. I still think Miller can be a player. -X-
To move up to the 11th overall pick, we would have to trade #25 and #37, which won't even guarantee that you will get him. Any pick hire will require #57 also most likely. It's not to move up a few spots. Hall is a top 15 pick. The writers are being realistic.
ok, this is whats giong to happen in the draft. the jets are going to take the BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE. there are going to be players that the Jets FO thought would have been gone by the 25th pick but they will still be there. thats just what happens. For example look at lienart last year. no one expected him to be available at #11 but he was and the cards got lucky. i would personally like to see the jets improve their Dline cuz i didnt like how we played against the run last year.
Drafting a cornerback in round 1 would be the dumbest move by the jets in a long time. Does it really matter who your corners are if you can't rush the passer or stop the run?
They need to continue to build inside out, especially on the defense. Worry about fixing the DL, then adding another pass-rushing LB, and then you focus on the secondary. Given all the talented 3-4 players in this draft, I can't imagine a scenario in which we would take a CB over one of them. Unless we go all out in free agency to add to the front seven, and a CB that's a top 10-15 talent drops.
Jets' need impact player with #1 pick....Whether it be a DE, DT, RB, LB, etc. CB.....he better be good.
The pass defense will improve when we get a viable run defense. Plain and simple. While we need a corner, a first rounder is not going to have an appreciable effect. Moreover, I'm excited that the Jets are not interested in Nate Clements, who will be over the hill midway through his contract, and various other turds that might be on the market. We have to build from within. -X-
