I have an unfavorable opinion of him. After his DROY year, I had such high hopes for him and he quickly tanked. Maybe I placed him too high up on the bar from the beginning and he never lived up to it in my eyes. Similar to Vilma???

I voted unfavorable. He was good for two years on a couple teams that never went anywhere. Then he seemed to lose his mind, claimed the officials were racist, some crazy shit. And except for his rookie year, never stopped Marino or Kelly from burning us in the last minutes of games. Could have been a big piece to the early 90s teams that were decent, but didn't hold up.

His rookie season, 1988, was the first year I got to watch any live Jets games. I was at Iowa University on an exchange programme and I saw about six live Jets games on TV, plus I went to KC to see them play the Chiefs.

I loved McMillan and the way he burst onto the scene, along with Crackerjacks Hasty and John Booty. It looked like being one of the all-time great drafts but only Hasty really panned out.

McMillan was a gambler and it paid off a lot in that rookie year. Also, in 1991 (I think) he scored three TDs, which is going some for a DB, but he seemed to also get burned a lot towards the end of his Jets tenure.

I'll still always fondly remember that rookie season, though.

I was JUST thinking of him! I never saw him play, but I saw his fantastic rookie season stats on his football card. What happened to him after 1992?

Vilma is one of those few guys on our team that is UNTRADEABLE.

Very dangerous when he got his hands on the ball but gambled too much and lost more than he won. Very overrated player.

I'd have to agree with Italian Seafood on this one. In 1988-89 McMillan was my favorite Jet player. In 1988, he almost set the rookie record for TD returns. In the Jets 44-30 win at Miami (Their first win in Miami since 1980), McMillan intercepted Marino three times, running one back 55 yards for a TD (First row seats for this game). But this type game also showed his weaknesses as he was burned for a couple of TD's and Marino did throw for 521 yards. McMillan also developed a reputation as a talker and a wise guy. After a couple of years went by, teams began to figure out his tendancies and yes, the Jets pass defense lost a few key games in the final minutes during Coslet's rookie season that basically set the tone for Coslet's tenure. McMillan, himself cost the Jets a win in Indianapolis when he attempted a lateral after intercepting what looked to be a back-breaking play and fumbled it away. The Jets went on to blow a large second half lead...Coslet began to pick on McMillan during the 1991 training camp by not promising him a starting job. McMillan began going downhill after this and finished his Jets career by claiming the NFL referres were racist following a Jets loss to the Saints at the end of the 1992 season...so overall, I'd say unfavorable....

That was one of the coldest, lowest, most miserable games I was ever at, I think we got shut out. Right up there with the 1989 finale at home on a Saturday vs Buffalo. This Saints game was the day after Christmas and just by chance I was sitting in the area near where my seats are now, lower end zone by 128. Last game of a 4-12 year, anyone remotely nicked up was held out of the game, I think Jeff Blake actually played a few snaps for us. Just horrible.

That was terrible. It was on my Birthday and my wife and a few friends went to the game. There were only a few thousand people there so we went all the way down to the front row right behind the Jets bench. Ken O'Brien was injured and standing around not paying attention to the game wearing a fur coat. My wife started screaming at him and calling him names I didn't even know that she knew. I love that woman...

You mentioned you were at the 1989 finale against the Bills. The only thing I really remember from that game (aside from the 37-0 final score) was as Walton ran off the field, TV cameras showed him running into the tunnel and about 50 fans were there and I swear all of their arms were moving in a frantic throwing motion -he must of been pelted with just about anything they could get their hands on........

Favorable. He faded when Pete Carroll came is as DC and he was forced into run support instead of being a centerfielder...

Yeah, and I didn't like that. Dick Steinberg had already been hired and everyone knew Walton was done. Very much like the 1996 finale at home vs Miami (which I was also at), when we already knew Kotite was through. As much as I wanted both guys out, once you know it's over it's time for the fans to call off the dogs, in my opinion. No need to throw things at a man.

Yeah, it was kind of a sad ending. I remember reading in the paper the next day how Steinberg was disturbed to hear that fans 'cursed and spit' at Walton as he ran off the field....

That 3 interception game againts Marino ...

makes him ok in my book. I can still picture the defeated, frustrated look on Marino's face. We haven't seen that too many times ... thanks E-Mac!

I will never forgive Erik 'The Lateral' McMillan for that Colts loss. Possibly the dumbest play in organized sports history dating back over 3,000 years.
