Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that Wade Phillips will be the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, replacing Bill Parcells. Contract details still have to be worked out and an announcement could come as early as tomorrow.
What a joke! Cowboys will fall right into a top 5 pick and if anyone thought TO was bad this year or with Philly, you havent seen anything yet.
Why does everyone think this is such a bad deal? Phillips is a very good 3-4 coach. Had he gotten any of the credit that people were so quick to bestow on Teddy C for his defense in Buffalo, he'd have been fielding offers long ago. He made the playoffs twice in 3 years, and he was 29-19. He took over during a time period where they were still transitioning from that Super Bowl era. They never had a good running back and they had a precarious QB situation with Flutie and Johnson. I think this might turn out to be a very good hire. He definitely has the tools on defense to make this work. Was Norv Turner a better commodity? Phillips has been successful everywhere he's been. Turner has been successful in one place. -X-
Several reasons: 1.They had hit a wall at 8-8. 2.The Music City Miracle. The Bills ownership was so furious about that play that they wanted to fire the special teams coach. Phillips refused to do so. 3.John Butler was fired and the search for a new general manager Tom Donahoe, probably meant that said GM would want to hire his own coach. Sometimes to make an omelette you have to break a few eggs. -X-
I dunno..I guess I figured Jerry Jones would get Turner, or one of the Super Bowl assistants (Rivera or Caldwell) We'll see I guess...Personally I hate Dallas with a passion so I hope they fall flat on their faces..
Appearantly this isn't a done deal, yet. Jones is supposedly low-balling Phillips. Why would you cheap out on a coachs salary? Its send a bad message to your team. Like... He's not worth big money.
I really like this hire for the Cowboys. He's a really good 3-4 coach, probably the best in the NFL. Sure he had some serious talent in that 3-4, but he did a fine job coming up with some schemes. Considering he's heading to the team with the second best 3-4 talent in all of football, it's the perfect situation for him. I'd really like to see how Spears, Canty, Carpenter, Ware, and so on all grow under him. I like Rivera, but my guess is that Phillips is the choice because he already coaches a 3-4.
I remember him being referred to as "Baby Bum" Don't know if they still call him that or not. :rofl2:
