I got a thought on the pro bowl. These players are beat to hell and the LAST thing they want to do is suit up and play crash dummy for four hours. And the last thing us fans want to watch is a really watered down game that most players only play at 50%. Sooooo, I would re-do the whole pro bowl concept like this: 1- Still have all the voting, and name the best players "all Pro". Give them the title, ring, resume, etc. 2- Go to Hawaii for a week of fun with wife, g/f, kids, whatever (kind of like the party week b4 the SB). 3- Then, in place of the actual game (that not one player wants to play and not one fan really wants to watch), pit the best AFC players against the best NFC players in a "kind of" punt/pass/kick, Slam Dunk, Home Run Derby style compitition that fans would love to watch and players would love to play. And keep score!!! 4- Some competition Thoughts (add yours!!!!): A- 1 on 1 pass and catch: The best receiver goes one on one with the best DB for 5 routs. Keep score. No pads. Just Jerseys and Helmets. The QB has 2.0 seconds to release the ball or it counts for the DB. This continues until all the best receivers and DB's from both the AFC and NFC have gone, then the final score. Either the AFC or NFC wins the pass and catch Catagory. B- The Defensive End competition: DE's have 3 seconds to push through 2 Offensive Linemen holding large pads and then reach and destroy a 220 pound "Dummy QB". Each DE selected "all Pro" has 5 runs, spin moves and all. Bust through, slam the dummy, get a point. Remeber that as each player plays, there will be plenty of high-lite film shown. Players love high-lite film. C- Field Goals: Sudden death. Both AFC/NFC kickers kick from the 20. Then 25. Then 30. Then 35. First to miss, looses. Another win for either the AFC/NFC. This could be the "last category" of the day, so if both AFC/NFC are tied from the other categories, the overall winner (AFC/NFC) comes down to this. Brilliant. D- Here's some "fun ones" to keep things lite and entertaining: Like the Slam Dunk Competition, this one is decided by fan noise: The End Zone Dance!!!! 3 contestants from each (afc/nfc) will take turns halling in a 20 yard pass (ungaurded) and then proceed to do their best end zone celebration dance. Chad Johnson will win this one even if he drops a wide open 20 yard pass. This category will be a fan favorite. Second fun one: The best AFC cheerleader squad will compete against the best NFC cheerleader squad with a 3 minute mid field routine. Again, fan noise decides. I'd like to see the CowGirls vs the Gills. Again, fan fun. But even this counts as a point towards the final afc/nfc score. Brilliant! D- OK...that's all my brain can come up with. Your turn. Create an "All Pro Day Competition" that the fans will love to watch, and the players would love to perform. The idea is to make it less serious and much more fun for both the players and the fans. Along the order of Home Run Derby and Slam Dunk. Scores will be kept. AFC or NFC will win. Brilliant! Care to dream? Go for it!
They have that kinda of stuff and nobody wants to watch and the players dont want to play. There is no fixing the pro bowl
...or better yet lets have the two cheerleader squads do a tug of war into a mud pit!!! Brilliant!!! Holy siht this is getting GOOD!!!
They already have that competition comparabale to the slam dunk contest, home run contest etc and then like the others they have the all star game. Also all pro and being on the pro bowl are two different things.
You nailed everything I would of said. That would be really fun to watch. They do stuff like that for the NBA and MLB and those players have fun with it. If they did that for the NFL they would have fun with that too.
alright im going to admit this before i even say it: this is going to be the single worst idea i have ever come up How about instead of a pro bowl...they make it a pro-am. Now that would be funny to watch
Actually the skills competition is more entertaining than the Pro Bowl. Even the old timers flag football is better. There is no point to playing football at half speed. Not only that, but they have certain rules designed to prevent injuries like you are not allowed to blitz, etc. I guess it did not work for Drew Brees.
All sports All Star games have become a Joke. You can take contact or Defense out of Basketball and hockey and still have a game that resembles a regular season game, but with football it does not work. Also, the game is played after the biggest game of the year, and most of the player in it have not played in nearly 2 months. Something I was thinking about was instead of having the Pro Bowl, why not a "Rookie Bowl". I am sure there may be better interest in seeing Reggie Bush ,Colston, AJ Hawk, Cutler, Mangold, Santonio Holms, Mario Williams and other play rather then seeing some over rated vets. The game could be played the week before the Super Bowl, someplace other then Hawaii.
I would still have the voting and award the players, but I would nix the game. Instead, I would do an NFL films type of thing with all of the Pro Bowl guys. Have them sit around discussing the year and dissecting the greatest plays of the year. Ask them what was going through their minds during this great run, or something like that. NFL films could put together a great "Year In Review" and "Greatest Plays of 2006" with the commentary from the Pro Bowlers and all of that great music. Now that I would spend a couple hours watching on a Saturday night rather than that joke of a "game"....
