For all those posters screaming for the jets to sign somebody, anybody, just look at one of last year's inital signings by Birdbrain Bradway last year, Lance Legree. Dubbed as "DE/DT" Birdbrain chirped at length about Legree's versatility and special relationship with the jets DL coach. A year later and Legree is looking for work. Another Steve White. I LIKE the current FO's approach--carefully evaluate the players instead of throwing FORTUNES around to Pennington, Martin, Chrebet, Marvin Jones, etc.,and then wonder why we were cap hell. I also think the current FO will do better than Birdbrain and Herm's 6-10 and 4-12 records.
Legree was recommended by the Jets D-line coach who was his coach with the Giants. Mangina hired that same great evaluator as his D-line coach. And the Brokeback Mountain boys won't better Birdbrain and Herm's three playoff seasons, an AFC East championship and a blowout playoff win over the Peyton Manning Colts. They won't be around long enough to have a chance to match that record.
Was Legree ever really considered anything more than a versatile depth guy? How much did the jets throw at him last year?
I'll tell you what, that guy from denver we are looking at looks like an exact clone of Legree on paper. Same size, about the same age, and both crappy backups. Can we please at least sign a starter? Maybe a good one? Maybe one who is not 35 years old like McGinist, or Von Olhoffen? WE HAVE CAP ROOM!! If we trade Aberaham, we can easilly spend 10 million and still be able to sign our picks, and maybe scoop up some guy who was cut after June 1, like Kendal from 2 years ago.
To add to my post, I am not upset that we have not signed anyone yet-- but I don't want to sign a bunch of backups, just because the pats won with A FEW role players. Lets not forget about the pro-bowlers they had-- who were in their Prime-- not old.
They didnt play im that much but he was an ok player. He could of been used for depth but we had to cut him to save space on the cap.
I disagree about Legree. Legree was neither highly sought after, nor was he a quic knee jerk reaction. Rather, we let players like Pat Williams go to Minnesota, and we sat back masterbating while it happened. Only then, once the solid NT's were off the market did we get Legree. This is sounding very familiar to this year though at the same position. Only Sam Adams would be a solid pick up now.
Legree was solid. Everyone blames the wrong people. We weren't expecting Legree or James Reed to be monster run stuffers. They were supposed to pull their weight and let Robertson penetrate and disrupt. They both did their job last year. Reed played very well, against most single teams though. He gets a good push off the line, but he isn't strong enough.
You again? jesus christ. Make a valid point about my post if you are going to make an attempt to criticize. If you want to spend our money on 6 backups, and old guys who will be gone in a year, then fine. Put together a full plan of FA and the draft and tell me what you would like to do. Maybe you can teach us all something.
I agree w/JetsIn2004. I love TGG.COM, but this is one the most UNSATISFIED group of people I have ever encountered.
Reed actually made some big plays, and had good stats, but apparently he never ate up the blocks that a DT needs to to make the LB effective.
I would also like to hear you debate my second post about the Pats, and their Role players. They have depth yes- but their depth is full of young, good players. Look at their recievers and TE's-- any one of the TE's would have started for us at any period over the last 10 years, and that includes Mike Vrabel. All of their recievers except for Dwite are better than Justin McCareins, with Deion Branch being about the same calibur as Coles.
The difference of opinions has always been a good thing about this board, but recently the people with different opinions just come up with "lol no way dis guy SUX!!11~". It's sad, I can't wait until the regular season starts.
And those 3 playoff appearances were courtesy of Parcell's and Co's drafts and acquisitions. The only pro bowler Terry birdbrain drafted was Sanata Moss whom he peddled to Redskins to recover Coles who he forget to tender correctly--I'll take what we have ANY DAY.
Well, not that their age had anything to do with that point in particular, but they are all quite young with the exception of Troy Brown, and Christian Fauria. Givens, Branch, Johnson, Graham, and Watson are all about 2-4 years into the league. The point in that post was that their backups can actually play at a starters level. Chatham wasn't even really a backup-- he has been in the league for several years, and cannot start, or even get significant playing time. I can name 20 guys on that D who get time, and he is not one of them. I don't know much about the guy from denver, but he has been in the league long enough to develop most of his potential, and still was not a starter. We need to get guys who can start, and contribute for the future... not old guys who will become cap hits in a year, and not backups who have already met their full potential. And I really hope you weren't trying to say that I am one of those people saying "lol, that guy sucks." I'm pretty sure I do a better job of backing up my opinions with facts than most on this site.
:drunk: they took over a team left behind by tuna. it took them 4 years of gravy-training to destroy it. the current duo have to clean up their mess, much like the tuna after kotite. dumbway and hermy couldn't spell cat if you spotted them the c and the t. :rofl2:
