What teams would be willing to trade up for 2 or 16? I'm not sure if it's the right move but I'd like to know the possibilities we have.
It's a weak draft with only a handful of players who really look like they could be elite. I would think that plenty of teams would want to jump the line for basically any player not named Mendoza. If the Jets really want Reese that badly then it only makes sense to trade down. I don't feel like it makes too much sense to use the 2nd overall pick on a guy with 7 career sacks and no pass rush moves.
I can't really agree here. I don't think defense in 2026 is all that defined. What he's saying adds up with a lot of philosophies. A ton of boards will have Reese as the BPA at 2, and he is the perfect fit for a defense that's trying to be a hybrid, having people line up in different spots, generating pressure from different positions. I don't think they're struggling with who they want at all.
For # 2 it has to be for a team that loves Reese like the Bengals or Chiefs . Or a team that loves Love like Washington or Titans. At 16 it’s obviously a tougher scenario. The only few that come to mind is Maybe if one of the OT falls or if someone has a first round grade on Faulk or Simpson.
Any team trading up to 2 is probably doing it to take Reese. I don't think we can pretend a trade down and Reese is an available option.
Let them. We can get a king's ransom and also a different player that's more of a sure thing. I know you're sold on him but he doesn't add up for me.
I just don’t think the rest of the league lines up with this thought. Not saying that’s right or wrong I’m saying I wouldn’t expect it to happen.
Well if the Jets do end up going elsewhere early in the draft, I'll be interested to see how that proves out
This is how I get through it, the Mougey tells Glenn to sit down and shut his mouth while he does his job.
Well, the top two players in the eyes of most experts are Love a RB and Downs the Safety. Neither will be picked at two. It will be Reese for best fit and future potential growth.
Reese, by far, has the biggest bust potential of anyone being talked about in the top 10. Just go on any Ohio St board and tthey're completely split on him as a pro prospect. Basically they're saying he has elite athleticism but isn't very refined. He's great in open space but not so much when it comes to an every down, consistent difference maker. That's frightening for a guy being talked about as a top 5 pick overall. You don't learn how to be consistent in the NFL. That needs to be done in college and Reese is the eptiome of inconsistency. Meanwhile, Ryan Day, Reese's own head coach, was on yesterday and when asked about the top players he faced this season mentioned a few and said Bain is a "monster" and dominated not only his team but also the natty champs in Indiana and just about every other team he played. It's really not that close IMO. Bain all day.
This is what I saw on film as well with Reese. He is a splash wow play guy. The consistency isn’t there. Now, when you see him chase down a running back from one hash to the sideline you see the raw ability but when you see him get swallowed up by tackles and go dark for multiple downs it’s definitely concerning. I felt he was the 3rd best player consistently on the field for Ohio st. Downs, Styles then Reese. His age and raw athleticism has skyrocketed him to have a high ceiling as a prospect but there are definitely red flags. Bailey and Bain are much safer picks no doubt
I want splash and upside as much as the next fan but if you want to turn the ship around you can't miss on first round picks. Bain should be the pick unless they can trade back.
If you’re not BPA then you shouldn’t be picked on potential, many players don’t fill that potential, the 2nd overall pick should be able to come in and have an impact on day 1. Bailey, Bain, Downs, Love, are going to come in and have an impact on the team that drafts them. Reese has potential but he didn’t show he was a dominant player in two years of college football, his 7 sacks in two years shows that either he was in coverage all the time or was swallowed up majority of the time by offensive linemen. David Bailey has progressed all 4 years in college as a LB, all his numbers increased, 20 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks, shows his last year he put it together. Majority of these experts gave Mendoza a 2 star rating, Musgrave saw his tape, went to see him in person and immediately gave him a scholarship to Cal the rest is history. I know some guys are in love with Reese but I would draft someone who has shown on tape that he’s been improving year over year and the numbers reflect that growth. Draft someone for who he is not what he might do. If Jets draft him, I will root for him though, one of our posters said it. The Jets just need to start winning games, it’s the only thing that matters.
It's two mindsets and I think both are valid with neither really taking the lead as THE way to go. Drafting for potential vs. drafting for safety. I go back and forth between the two based on each situation so I don't have a preferred method. At 2, with this current team, I'm taking the highest upside guy and I think that's Reese by a mile. I also think his floor is nowhere near what people are making it out to be. He's an elite run defender that can chase down any QB/RB/WR in the flat, I don't think that's going to change in the pros. At his floor, he's a really good LB. Do you want that at 2? No. But if you get your other picks right I don't think you're gonna be pissing and moaning about it all that much even if Bailey and Bain end up being great.
I'm 100% in on the Bailey train. Reese will be a bust if we draft him. If we don't, he will be the next Lawrence Taylor for somebody else.
If this was the Saleh era, I'd expect him to pound the table for Reese. I think the current FO will prefer Bailey as a safer pick. I'd rather trade for 2027 picks if there are customers, I don't see anyone as #2 worthy.
I think this statements are where box scores mislead you. The sack numbers absolutely do not show you that he was in coverage or getting swallowed up. There's a valley between that and what the tape shows. He's a dominant run defender, he's got speed and power to chase down backs. He sheds or just straight up overpowers most blockers thrown at him. He's also got elite closing speed that pops off the tape. You're saying "he was in coverage a lot" as if it's a bad thing. He's got work to do in coverage but "in coverage" also means he was blowing up plays behind or at the LOS. And Bailey was an absolute monster against the pass. But he's taken no steps forward as a run defender. So the sack numbers tell you half the story. If you're worried about Reese being a bad pass rusher then you have to be just as worried about Bailey being a liability against the run. Long story short: all three of these guys are really good prospects with question marks.
This isn't directed just at you because plenty of people are saying it, but I dunno how anyone can look at a modern NFL defense combined with what Aaron Glenn has flat out said he wants to do and think Bailey will be the pick. He's the antithesis of the hole we're trying to fill in a defense that wants to line guys up in different spots and generate pressure from all over the field.
