I would not hate taking a stab at Carson Beck, depending on which round of course. Tall, experienced, rhythm passer with a winning pedigree, kinda hard to hate that in the mid rounds as a backup/developmental QB
The problem really boils down to, "who." Who will shake free? If anything, 2026 has taught us that, no matter which direction you turn, the QB crop available is dog shit. Nothing coming out of the draft, FA or going to be available via trade is worth jack. If anyone is trading anyone then they aren't worth wasting a pick. No one is trading an actual player who is starting caliber or 1a quality backup material. Period. Not for cheap anyway.
I just can’t comfortably sit here and listen to Dan Orlovsky on ESPN saying Ty Simpson, the QB of the ALABAMA crimson tide is special because he was the whole team and “had to do it all for them” Not Alabama State, not South Alabama A&M Community College, but the ‘Tide, with 5 star athletes everywhere that he’s saying this about. he gets paid to make stupid comments like that

That’s why I love Mateer! Pretty much everything he represents is what you just said. You might be right he might not be a good fit. However, my eyes tell me he’s going to be a good NFL quarterback.
As for the cold weather. He wasn’t tested in those elements in college so your guess is as good as mine if would affect his play. With solid mechanics weather is usually not an issue. His footing is very clean and he has strong enough arm strength to deal with the wind.
He’s totally a talking head because Proctor is one heck of a prospect on the line. However, as I said before Simpson has plenty of attributes you look for in a pro quarterback. Having Grubb as his OC gave him a ton of pro style concepts with motions to decode coverage and his ability to go through progression at lightning speed. Combine that with excellent mechanics, accuracy and athleticism to escape the pocket I feel Simpson will be a very good quarterback. Dare I say he might even be more pro ready than Mendoza who ran an RPO style offensive scheme. I think a team like the Cards could move back from 3 several spots and take him in the 8-15 range.
Mouge, Glenn, Reich are in Tuscaloosa for a private workout with Simpson. What timing… I’m currently in Tuscaloosa for work and working on the Alabama campus today. A ton of NFL people are in my hotel from yesterday’s pro day. I’ll be on the lookout for Mouge and co tonight.
With Simpson the tape actually has a lot of good moments, but my concerns are size, injury history, and lack of starts, especially given the age. It's really a combination of these factors that makes it a bit scary. You have a guy who basically was on the bench for 3 years and could not win the job. The year he does win the job, he plays injured a lot, and then performance drops off pretty substantially, and then he breaks his rib, which does not impact his game count for the year, but same injury earlier in the season would have sidelined him for two months. And on top of that he is small, meaning it may not be a fluke that he is hurt a lot. And we don't really have another season to point to in order to see if he can improve. Basically you have to decide now on him, which raises risk profile.
IMO. When is all well and done, the 16th is the most exciting, challenging and will be the most discussed pick. It will get an enormous amount of attention by the fans. If Simpson is still there, even more so, it will be discussed at nausea pro and con on the selection made for the longest time.
That's what people like Orlovsky are saying and yet Alabama will have a 1st/2nd round receiver, and a 1st round offensive tackle drafted this year, along a top 10 1st round receiver drafted next year, all of which played with Simpson
I am not sure where they all will be drafted, but I did watch Georgia and Indiana games, and the guy was under siege and bunch of drops and no running game. Against good teams at the end of the year he did not get much help. Of course he is not better than Mendoza, and it's not like he played great himself, not sure what Orlvosky is smoking. But this team looked to have worse supporting cast than before.
Your concerns are legitimate. All I’m saying is that he passes the eye test for me. The film doesn’t lie and this kid screams a pro prospect.
To have scepticism on Simpson is understandable. However when you watch him drop dimes and protect the football it makes you feel he’s a good one. I highly doubt he’s there at 16 so it really doesn’t matter much
