They definitely should be getting an IOL prospect who can play center. I'd be happy to see one in the 2nd round if the value is there, but I be there could be some good prospects in the 4th too

I was thinking in the 2nd round... As other's have pointed out there are only one or two WR's with a 1st round grade and even that is debatable, in my mind anyway. If you watch "tape" on Fields he reminds me an awful lot like Mike Evans so, if you like Evans I'm thinking you'll like Fields.

My thinking on Center is as follows: if you can get a guy that you know you can start for the next 2 decades then you draft him WHEREVER you need to. This horse crap about not "burning" a 1st round pick on a guy who is going secure one of 22 spots for the next 15 to 20 years is just that, horse crap. I don't care if it's a sexy pick or not. Don't care if the draftnik's will give you an A or a C. No one is going to care, 5 years from now, what round you got a guy if he occupies a spot for 10+ years. Now, if you feel you can get a 20 yr. starter in the 2nd round on down, well then, O.K. But if there are only one or two guys who are worth drafting, you go get them. Center is one of those slots where I don't want to have to do too much "training" to get them up to speed. I want plug and play as much as you can get.

I guess that's the difference between my thought process and others. For me it's about putting a kid in a slot where you now no longer have to worry about that slot for years. Does NOT matter WHERE you grab them. OL is one of those where a solid talent evaluator SHOULD be able to identify if a guy is going to be a long term starter in the league. It's not like drafting other spots where other influences impact their ability to produce.

One final note I've finally reconciled. At #2, Reese better not be the pick. NO ONE gets drafted in the top 5, in my mind, who has started all of 16 freakin' games in college. I don't give a shit he he can jump out of the stadium. It's not enough of a resume for me to burn that pick. I need to see a lot more "tape" on a guy than 16 games. You can't make even a remotely definitive decision on such a tiny sample size.

I also get that vibe on Fields. Just really like those soft hands and how he bullies DBs. For a guy that big and strong I don’t think the 4.6 is a bad time at all. He also has nice shake coming out of his breaks. I’d take him at 33 and definitely wouldn’t pass on him at 44

That’s ok though. You’re generally playing Wilson and a smaller-ish slot type guy on the same side of the field anyways.

We definitely don’t have a true X but we don’t really have a slot either. I think they’re ok with playing Mitchell as the X and just taking the top off the defense even if he can’t really catch.

I get that, what I’m saying is that doesn’t really matter these days. It wouldn’t deter me from taking Lemon in the slightest.

Mitchell is very intriguing to me still. He was constantly open on a variety of routes… inside, outside, down the field. He had some bad drops but he also had almost no time to build chemistry with two different god awful QBs in Fields and Cook. Some of those balls he dropped in the first game could have easily been a velocity thing that he never got a chance to get used to. Or… he just blew it.

I like him as an X for us but I do wish we’d at least try to find a better option.

I completely agree, and it doesn’t have to be that long, if it can anchor the position 5-10 years as a capable starter you grab him regardless, particular if is a position of need. The notion some people have that you don’t draft certain positions that high in the draft, be it G or S or C or RB LB or whatever is so much old folklore. You get best possible players at every position.

Roseman did it to get Jalen Carter. I think we would sign up for that, even if we are not as good. It just depends. We have 9 picks - are we going to have 9 rookies this year + rookie UDFAs make a roster? Probably not. And if we move up say to 10, we don't lose #44, we end up maybe with 72 and still plug a hole at back-up OL.

Aside from QB, which I do not think we can address in the draft, our biggest need is a WR right now. So, I don't think moving up in round 1 to address WR2, while moving down from round 2 and still get an OL in the 3d is a waste of capital. It all comes down the player. If Mooge thinks he can get his #2 WR at #10 and thinks there is a significant drop off at 16, it's not a bad idea to try to move up. Now, Lemon may not be the guy, I get that point, though I do like him. But whoever it is - if he thinks a high probability WR2 is there at #10 and won't be at #16 and the Bengals are willing to do the trade I mentioned earlier, it would be wise to pull the trigger.

You missed his point. The Eagles weren’t rebuilding. They were fresh off a SB appearance they barely lost. The Jalen Carter trade up is in no way comparable to the Jets trading up 5-6 spots for a receiver.

So did you. If you are rebuilding you wouldn't want Jalen Carter? Only if you are not rebuilding you can move up for a great player? This just makes no sense. You need good players when you are rebuilding. And we have extra draft capital, 9 total picks and two in the second.

Would you be upset if we got Jalen Carter caliber player, but at WR, by moving to #10, and instead of 44 would pick OL depth in the 3d round? That would help our rebuilding team, which needs a really good WR, a lot. All depends on a player and compensation. Rebuilding or not.

Jalen Carter would’ve been drafted at the very top of the draft if he didn’t get arrested for reckless driving that killed 2 people mere weeks before the draft

it’s not comparable to this situation because none of the receivers available have top of the draft talent worth trading up for

You’re still missing the point which was a team in our position shouldn’t be pissing away picks to move up. I know you’re a big advocate of it because the Eagles did it once the year after they almost won the SB when they had two first round picks.

No I wouldn’t move up for Tate or Lemon and give up 44.

I didn't miss the point. I countered the point, and you are not able to grasp it for some reason and keep repeating the same thing, while also either purposely or due to not paying attention misconstruing the trade possibility I brought up. I will try this again, but if it is still not clear, we can leave it at that.

The proposal is if a WR Mooge thinks has high probability of becoming a WR2 or 1 for us (like Tate or Lemon for example) and the next one does not, if that guy lasts until 10 or so, maybe he could move up from 16 to 10 with the Bengals, about 6 spots. This will not cost #44. This will cost move from #44 to about #72 (Bengals pick) in 3d round according to Rich Hill value chart, which is most accurate I have seen. Then #72 can still be used to draft depth, such as OL.

The point is, it depends on the guy and the cost. If you do not like the guy or the cost, don't do it. But I feel it is a mistake to say, we are rebuilding, so we will not be trading up for likes of Jalen Carter, even if we have 9 picks in this draft and he fills the biggest need we have. You need to keep this option open. Now, if Tate or Lemon are not same level in your opinion or the cost is to give up #44 entirely, sure, don't do it. But don't discount any trade up possibility because we are rebuilding. One of the reasons why Philly has success without great QBs is because Roseman is shrewd and is making moves like that not the other way around.

I’m down the middle here. We have a lot of picks and we need to hit on them. I have no problem packaging two of them for the opportunity select someone with a way higher ceiling and way higher floor. Quality over quantity for me. But each situation is unique, we’re taking about complete hypotheticals here.

Basically, I think it’s irresponsible to sit here and say there’s no way we should trade up because we have too many holes Just like it is to say we need to trade up to get the best talent available. Every single situation is going to come with its own set of circumstances.

No, you’re trying to equate the Eagles franchise situation in 2024 as the same as the Jets. They are not the same.

You can write 6 more paragraphs about trading up. I wouldn’t trade up this year if I were the Jets.

I’ve never understood why teams don’t try to do the two tightend thing more often. The Rams did it successfully this year. The Patriots years ago with Gronk and the murderer. I thought the Raiders were going to ram the ball down everyone’s throats with their two tight ends this year.

I don’t really love Sadiq in the first round though. Good player but he’s very much like Kyle Pitts. I’m not sure if that’s necessarily a bad thing but I don’t like receiving only tightends.

I believe that for many of us is an emphatic no, no, and hell no to the idea of moving up for a WR at 10 in this year group of WRs. Not for a team that has so many needs and the draft is loaded with position of need for us. Be it LB, Safety, CB or OL to help to anchor this line for the next ten years. You don’t give up a precious pick for a WR group that is close enough to give you a damned good one at 16.
We are not a couple of players away from success. We need to upgrade a whole bunch of positions to be respectable and start winning the games we should before we can even think like what Philly, or the Rams or other perennial winners do when they are one pro bowler player away from the finish line.
This team is ripe for BPA at almost any position. We got the picks. Just do it.
