With the Eagles just acquiring Dalton as backup, perhaps the jets will try to trade for Eagles former backup Tanner McKee, who was earlier rumored to the jets & is in a contract year.
I do think the idea of a younger player as a back-up makes sense. Dalton is 38. Turning 39 in Oct. That's 3 years older than even Geno, who is no spring chicken. I suspect Mooge is looking for someone younger. Maybe Tanner, or maybe Rattler, Levis type. I also am not sure if he is willing to give a lot as a compensation for a back-up. McKee may not be cheap. But who knows. If Roseman thinks he can get 6th or better for McKee, he would be OK giving up 7th for Dalton. He is always looking to gain some value.
I heard one rumor that they may offer Sherwood for Levis and I'm all for it. Not that I think Levis is the answer, but I think Sherwood is a hugely overpaid skinny liability in the middle of the defense. He can't cover or get in the backfield. Yeah, he makes a lot of tackles, but they are always 8-9 yards from the line of scrimmage where he lives. Especially when he and fellow lightweight McDonald are on the field, the other teams smell blood and run it down the jets throat.
Murray wanted no business being here. He's looking to play one year and cash in. Minnesota made the most sense.
murray is not a frank reich QB...he was never coming to the jets. Reich wants tall, rhythm pocket passers. Having watched a lot of wentz last year with the vikings....no jets fan should want him either. He also is/was never coming to jets. He's playing for his childhood team after being out of the league. Geno, Cousins were as good as it was going to get and I'd argue in that order so they did the best they could with a bad situation.
I disagree as far as Murray is concerned. While there's an argument for Wentz, there's no way in holy hell I wanted anything to do with Murray. Murray needs a HC and system in place that will ride his ass like Zorro. That is NOT AG and company. AG has enough problems to deal with than having to manage a guy that needs, well, managed. Regardless of what you do/do not believe coming out of Arizona, where's there's smoke there's almost always some type of fire. It may not be as bad as they were leading everyone to believe but, damn, you do NOT let a guy, like Murray and his skill sets, walk out the building unless there's no hope. The QB market is WEAK and, if Arizona is letting that kind of talent out the door, I want no part of what it's going to take to mitigate "whatever." Give me Geno Smith, a draft pick and whatever QB they can scrape from the heap for 2026. Focus on building out the rest of the team. If 2026 goes well and Geno does what he's CAPABLE of doing then it's all moot. If Geno shits the bed as most seem to think he will, our 2026 draft picks proves to be useless then there's 2027 and what's supposed to be a decent crop of QB's. Then again, 2 years ago, everyone was ballyhoo'ing about the 2026 class, which turned out to be a travesty. To be honest, with the inception of the NIL, I don't trust HALF the QB's coming out. Most haven't spent enough time, in one place, to show any type of consistency. The one's that "mercenary" their way around the college ranks haven't proved shit. All they've proven is they can move to a team, loaded with talent, and light up the sky. We shall see... As an aside, personally, I think the NFL needs to start thinking about where they are going to pull their talent. College football is a disaster and it's going to get a lot worse. I was listening to Brian Hoyer on the Opening Drive this morning and he wasn't painting a pretty picture. One thing for certain is folks better get used to QB's, coming out of college, being in the mid to late 20's by the time they've cycled through the college system, sued for extra years to squeezed all the $$ and then are "ready" for the draft. At 26, 27 and 28 years old. Hoyer was saying he's never seen so many "older" QB's. Considering, no matter how good you are, QB's taking 2, 3 even 4 or 5 years to acclimate to the pro game, you are going to start seeing QB's who aren't "NFL ready" until their early 30's.
well that's exactly why I think Murray was well worth a shot. You'd be acquiring a 28 year old who is already a legit NFL QB. I mean you just aren't going to find a QB that completes almost 70% of his passes and gets 25 TDs in a bad year. Let alone in his 20s. For as cheap as Murray was/is. Ty Simpson isn't going to bring that level or production. If he needs a few years to develop to that level he's already gonna be 27/28 years old. Geno Smith was there. But it was when he was 28 with Seattle, after other teams "gave up on him" like Murray, now he's older and much less effective
For me, it’s not Murray’s skills I worry about. It’s his mental makeup. To be honest, he’d get eaten alive in NY. If even 1/4, of what was reported, was true the fans alone would eviscerate him.
