Realistically one year…sure $4M guaranteed for following year but with the cap as high as it is and increasing every year, that $4M becomes pretty insignificant
Used to be a tackling machine, hopefully he still has his motor, wasn't he drafted the same year, we drafted the great Quinton Coples?
Then it effectively becomes 1 year 15 mil. Not a small chunk. Don't take me wrong, I am not against this deal, we had to do something, but it does have a sizable price tag and risk.
Nothing with a one year shelf life is a risk financially. It’s not gonna keep us from anything this year and it means nothing for next year.
4 mil will be next year. And also CAP follows a rollover system, where unused CAP rolls into the following year, CAP is constantly manipulated to push the hit forward overall, plus there is only so much the owners are willing to spend overall. So, yes, a single contract that is not good is not going to kill us, particularly a short one, and I am not even saying this is a bad one, but you do need to limit number of bad contracts and overall money wasted as eventually it accumulates.
I hope this means the jets move Sherwood. Or release him after June 1. I know the cap hit but it's worth it. He's a college safety, who Joe Douglas dreamed could play LB. He gets manhandled on run plays. Because he is small, he hangs back and tacklers the ball carriers about 8-9 yards from the line of scrimmage. Sure, he gets tons of tackles, but they are downfield. Neither him nor McDonald can stuff the run (or cover the pass).
So is this kind of like when the Jets should have drafted Ed Reed and then Ed Reed played for the Jets for a year as a consolation prize when he was 79 or something like that? I know the Jets drafted Demario Davis and he played for us twice already. The third time is a charm. I'm crabby.
I was thinking about Davis overnight, he was traded back* to the Jets once for Calvin Pryor. Pryor has not appeared in an NFL game in 9 years!! also didn’t realize he had over 100 tackles last season he’s a true Ironman
They showed a picture of him from a game last season. He’s got the “C” on this shirt, but it’s a golden C with 4 stars under it. its like acquiring general patton
