Per Schefter, we reached a 2 year 22 million dollar deal with 15 million in guarantees.... Personally, I love this.
Man ok…well I admit I haven’t followed him lately so I’m hoping at that advanced age he still has something left, but man I’m so tired of our LBs being unable to cover backs and TEs for so long…hard to see how a 37 year old LB will be able to do it…I don’t know…again I like the player a lot and maybe he hasn’t lost a step, but 37 for an LB seems pretty ancient
Looks like Anzalone went 2 and 17. We paid 2 and 22 for 37 year old Davis. Davis arguably had a better year 2025, but can he keep this up at 37 years old?
I'm not sure how I feel about the Davis signing. Waaayyyyy too old for that kind of money. I'll chalk this one up as the lone "brain fart" of 2026 for Mougey. Let's hope there is not another. Tom Jackson was the oldest linebacker to play a significant role in the NFL at the age of 35. The OLDEST LB'er to play was James Harrison (39) but he was strictly a situational edge rusher at that time, which is NOT Davis' game.
Davis just had a career high in tackles with 143 (10th in the league). He's played in every single game possible since 2013. There's 0 signs of him slowing down. It's 2026. We gotta stop looking at total contract value and focus on the guarantees which are $15 mil over two years.
Yeah I hadn’t realized he was that old…I don’t know…this one seems a bit rich for a guy who could very well fall off a cliff at 37 years old…not sure I get it.
I hope you’re right, but when Father Time comes calling, it’s often like falling off a cliff…this one is 50/50 for me…I do like the player, but there is a pretty decent chance that age finally catches up to him.
To be honest, even $15 million, IMO, is STILL too much for a guy that old but, as you said, his toes haven't left the field in many years, which means this guy has an ass ton of miles on him. I didn't say I hated the signing, just extremely wary of knowingly going "in on" a dude that could, quite literally, have the door slam shut on him instantly. Just sayin'...but it's not worth haggling over.
No not a huge deal and for me, I’m not going to complain too much about it, but it’s an odd signing in terms of a lot of money for a 37 year old LB. I know we have plenty of cap room so not a huge deal but this has the potential to look really bad if all those miles finally catch up to him…I’m hoping we don’t see a lot of easy completions to backs and TEs running free with Davis chasing them…
I don't understand how $15 mil gtd over two years is "a lot of money" for the NFL's 5th ranked LB (according to PFF) who was 10th in the league in tackles. Just because of his age? I dunno... feels like looking for reasons.
to me it’s not the money it’s the age….but again I like the guy so I’m not complaining too much. Just worried about a 37 year old LB running around.
