Exactly!!! That's what we were talking about here as the obvious thing, and he didn't overthink it. He even mentioned something to the regards of they are considering both tags, "if not sign him, we will see which way we will go with the tag". I am thinking transition tag, but that one is not as certain as overall tagging was.

Today’s the day. Either he agrees to an extension or he gets tagged tomorrow. I’m really confused as to how its all going to shake out. He moped around and acted like a diva which led me to believe he would rather be anywhere but here, but by all accounts it sounds like they are going to come to an agreement (Rosenblatt and Hughes both reported that). He definitely strikes me as the type of guy that would get paid and then mail it in but I’d rather take my chances that he’s going to keep going full steam ahead.

If I had to take a guess… 3/36 with $26 mil guaranteed and an out after year 2.

For franchise tag according to every reporter imaginable on Twitter. That means he either signs a deal by July 15 or he plays on a one year deal that counts $14 million against the cap and he becomes a free agent next year.

It sounds like the two are continuing to talk about a deal but I have my doubts about whether or not Hall actually wants to be here. But like I’ve said before he also strikes me that kind of guy that wants to cash in no matter where it is.

If you told me this ends in a holdout I’d absolutely believe you.

I don't like him being tagged. This almost guarantees he's going to be disgruntled this year and absolutely will not return.

Conversely it is an opportunity for him to make even more money by going out there and kicking ass on the field, which is the angle I hope he takes

I think this is a very smart and prudent move. This year he needs to show it on the field if he wants a big payoff from any team moving forward. Also up to our new OC and QB to use him on a larger role. If he has a monster year it will be most beneficial to him, if he fakes it, the market will shrink accordingly.

I really dont get this move at all if the plan is to tank in 26 and pick your franchise QB. What does having a RB for one more year do especially when you could have traded him for assets at the deadline like they did with the other players? The only way this makes sense is if they are taking Simpson this year. This doesnt align with trading away Sauce and QW for picks and rebuilding. Its like the Jets just operate from one day to the next instead of having one cohesive plan.

With the current state of the Jets it's analogous to "the ugly girl has to spend more on make-up." We'll have to overpay Breece to get him to stay, and we should.

They would have traded Breece last season too, but the offers they were getting were shit. KC specifically tried lifting him from us. I'm glad Mougey stood firm. Personally, I'm ok with this. It's stupid to say but when Breece was a rookie I got to be around him for a media day photo shoot along with many other players, He stood out to me as a great dude, and I've given him the benefit of all doubt ever since. Hey, it's the only inside information I have to go with. The Jets have cap space now, and it's OK with me if they spill a bit of it on a one year overpay for Breece Hall.

Im going to venture to guess the front office and coaching staff does not plan to tank in 2026 nor should literally anyone that is involved in pro sports.

Did it occur to you that perhaps saving their jobs came into the discussion.. This HC doesn't have the luxury of another putrid season. Certainly not a redux of 3-14. The GM is in better shape although not entirely bulletproof. Breece is their most durable offensive weapon as the QB position is still in flux and GW isn't superman.

One fire at a time. First, fix the offense with the tools already in hand so yeah, pay Breece big money and if the team shows real progress, sign Breece long term. The OCS has been upgraded tremendously as has the GM position so the odds are good that the offense will be better. Now that the RB spot is settled, fix the WR second either thru FA or the Draft. Then sign a vet QB to be a placeholder/mentor for the FQB in '27.

Mougey has the smarts to pull this off. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money and that's exactly what Mougey did with Sauce (who didn't tackle very often) and QW who was simply tired of all the losing. Got pretty good return on that investment too. All Mougey has to do at this point is make good draft decisions and listen to the most experienced CS he's had to work with to date.

Of course you don't get it. Tanking is a rare, if ever, occurrence - you think it is real. There is no plan to tank. There is absolutely no reason for any NFL team to enter any season looking to lose, especially in the belief that they can somehow just show up at the following draft and be handed a "franchise quarterback." There are no franchise players in any draft - they are developed over time.

I got the alert about Breece getting the non-exclusive franchise tag on my phone today.

I'm exceedingly happy the Jets didn't blow this layup.

It doesn't mean they have to give him a long term deal or make him the highest paid RB in the NFL long term but they had to bring him back in 2026.

I hope they can lock him up long term.

Hard disagree. You can’t tell me that in a sport where a franchise QB means the difference between competing and not competing, that it’s not most beneficial to get to the front of the line to get one. It’s why all of you were so pissed the jets won that game to take them out of the Lawrence sweepstakes. Let’s stop pretending winning 5 games instead of 3 is more important than getting a franchise qb.

The only one who needs to save a job is Glenn, and he isn’t doing the drafting or FA signings. He’ll be fired after this season regardless of if the jets win 2 games or 8 games and everyone knows it. The plan is 27 to anyone who’s paying attention.

Well said. And for whatever it is worth, I don't WANT the jets to tank in 2026. Let's put forth the best team we can. I think w a good draft, much better coaching, a few free agents, and the Patriots not playing their 2025 creampuff schedule, the jets could make some noise in 2026.
