Haven’t used the tag since 2021 with Marcus Maye and at this point there isn’t anyone else on the horizon with tag potential so yeah seems like a good time to use it
Not that I want to get to this point but Hall isn’t the kind of guy that can afford to sit out and miss games or an entire season because he wants to be traded or paid. His body has been proven to be somewhat of a problem. Do I think that would stop him? No, not at all. He’s a diva. But hopefully he has smart people in his ear telling him to either take $14 million guaranteed this year or guarantee himself $10+ million per year for the next two or three.
This one is a layup not a conundrum. They have $98 million in cap space, he's 24 years old, he doesn't have a history of injuries like Saquon had when the Giants let him hit the market, he was the Jets best player in 2025. If they blow this one it's NOT a good sign. To me it would be similar to the decision to not bring back Rodgers and right off the bat too same as that decision. Front load that contract everyone knows the team isn't going to be good in 2026 & 2027 by the time the team gets good he'll be in his prime years and his cap numbers will be a bargain for the team.
I'll say it I want hall and AVT back. Can't stabilize the roster letting everyone walk out the door and not like we're paying anyone else. Also the smart teams are gearing up for the next NFL contract in a couple years. Caps will only be going up. No reason to be afraid to spend money
Unless they're looking to do him a solid, I dont see why they wouldn't bring him back. He gets transition tagged, and they work on a three year extension from there. He's too good of a player to let walk for no reason.
To me, this is such a no-brainer. He’s a good to great running back…hard to say elite but he’s also played with NO QB passing threat and a shit OL for his first 3 years…but to me, I’d like to see what he can do in a real offense with a real OC and a real QB now that we have an average (at least) OL. With the likes of Fields and Brady Cook he got his 1000 yards. But letting him go to me falls into the same mistakes this team makes over and over … we always find a way to justify letting our few good players go and there’s always a rationale and to me it is almost always the wrong decision. I hated losing Sauce and Q but at least we got a lot of picks for them…letting Breece go for nothing makes zero sense
How many RB currently have four year, fully guaranteed contracts? I have no clue, but it can't be many. If he demands four years from the Jets, you go your separate ways.
How many more wins does Breece Hall get the Jets? Not a whole lot, if any. Again, he's expendable. Why would you invest that money in a guy who isn't going to take you to the next level? You can easily pick up a young RB in the draft in the late rounds and replace Hall. Use the $14M on some other position of need with an impact FA and you've now helped fill 2 holes on the team for the price of a good, but not great, RB. The Jets can probably get Kaelon Black from Indiana in the 6th or 7th round. Same with Roman Hemby although he may go in the 4th-5th. Both are younger, cheap, and produced at the highest level. I'd much rather roll with either of these young, promising backs than invest $14M in Hall who's ok to good but already on the back nine of his career. He's not that fast out of the backfield and takes time to get up to full speed. Not the dynamic type of back you invest a pretty large number in especially at RB. Not after that Denver game in 2022. He's not the same back.
I'm not saying you're wrong, because that's absolutely the ideal situation with so many late round picks. If the Jets think they can, that would be great. Having said that, Breece was 13th in the league last year in rushing and receiving yards. That feels like pretty darn solid production for someone that can easily be replicated by a 6th or 7th round player. Almost every player in front of him was selected in the first or second round.
I'm a bit confused, you said tag him and work on a 3-year deal, which is giving him a 4 year deal from this point in time, if he signed it. Breece in 3 seasons' time, no thanks. Gore up the middle for 2
My thought process was to extend him this off season, then remove the tag. I figured he’d get a three year deal, with like 2.5 years guaranteed. That would take him to 28. I feel like that’s a pretty common contract we’ve seen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Breece had almost the exact same stats (slightly worse) as Tony Pollard. Would people here be saying, "it would be a bad idea not to pay Pollard'? Yeah I agree something like 3 years 30 million, with 20 guaranteed would be about right. But I have my doubts Breece would see it that way. I think he might be talked into accepting that from a top team, but from us, I dunno. Like I've been saying, Breece is gone sooner or a little later. How much do want to spend to make it a little later?
For me it's a team thing. At some point, this organization has to START changing the culture of this team. Now, obviously, we're not in the locker room so I have no idea what goes on in there but I've never heard anyone come out and say Breece is a cancer or bad teammate. I've heard he has had comments concerning the FO but, shit man, get in line for that mess. This organization MUST find a way to keep some if not all the homegrown talent. This bullshit about RB's having a 4 - 6 yr. shelf life is tired. Not in today's NFL. Not with the training, medical advancements etc. As long as RB doesn't sustain a major injury, many are good well into years 7 - 10. It sends a VERY bad message that, if you are drafted by the NY Jets, and there's not a QB in your title, you are not valued outside what they can pick up in trade. Yeah, we did get a lot of cheddar for Q and Sauce. Unfortunately, that also tells the remaining players and anyone coming into the organization that even your BEST players are expendable...and right in the prime too! Hell, Sauce hasn't hit his prime. I also love how the fans seem to dictate who is overrated and not. Indy wasn't shy in dealing all that capital so someone values the kid. With the Jets luck he'll turn into a HoF'er AND win a Super Bowl in the next 5 years. So, after all that "hot air," I'm all for keeping Hall. $30 - $35 mil over the next 3 years isn't too much. The Salary Cap is exploding and this will be a pittance in 5 years. And...don't fucking tag the kid. There's already enough bad blood between the FO and this guy. Yeah, it's a business but whoever coined the term, "It's business, not personal" can suck my left testacle. When you devote your life to something, it's ALL personal. If Mougey comes at Hall with a legitimate contract offer and not something insulting I think the relationship can be repaired. If they fuck around and tag him I can EASILY see him not sign and hold out. This is not some Bell situation with him coming out of Pittsburg. Bell was used up. Hall is just getting into/in the middle of his prime. Just saying. For once in the Jets existence, over the last 20 years, please do something fucking normal and offer this kid a REAL contract and not some bullshit.
