Other people went to waste 14m locking in a player who couldn't give a fuck for the Jets. It is indeed a strange world.
I’d rather use like 10% of our available cap space on a RB that we know can play as opposed to a top 44 pick on a RB we hope can play. If our cap situation wasn’t as solid as it is I’d probably have a different opinion but I don’t think a team as destitute as us can afford to be cheap when it comes to securing talent.
Just to be clear I’m not pointing this out saying that I want to draft defense, but rather because the draft is really just set up for us to be choosing from defensive players at the picks we have, or reaching for an offensive player. For example, at pick 2 we are choosing be Bain/Reese/Downs/Bailey or we could reach for an offensive player in Tyson/Tate/Love/Lemon. At pick 16 assuming Lemon is off the board we could draft Woods/Styles/Banks or we reach for a guy like Boston or even Ty Simpson At 33 guys like CJ Allen/McNeil-Warren/Hood will be the likely pool of best available, or we could reach for guys like Chris Bell or Omar Cooper. If we stay true to BAP while honoring needs, assuming no trades, it’s likely going to be a defensive player at each pick. Lemon is the X factor of whether he drops to 16.
and will he knock his pan in for the Jets after you have franchised him for a season and handed him 14m? I don't think he will myself tbh
He’s a diva. No question about it. But there seems to be some really easy ways to keep him happy and also make the offense better that for some reason we’ve refused to do for years. Maybe Reich will be the guy to do it.
Well since we have needs basically all over, this is a good draft to go BPA because it’ll almost certainly ALSO fill a position of need. However, I desperately want a WR in round 1, preferably with our pick at 16…if a guy like Lemon is there, we need to take him. Our playmakers are among the worst in the league with only 1 real guy in GW if we don’t keep Breece. That’s it. One guy. I don’t think much of castoffs like Mitchell and Metchie…there’s a reason why they came so cheap. They are WR4 type guys right now. Smith showed absolutely nothing last year…can’t count on him either. Honestly, it feels like of all our receivers, probably Williams may be the best one, but at least he’s a good ST guy. Will be interesting to see what we can do in free agency, but with our coaching and lack of QB, I can’t see ANY real receiver choosing us. Pearce will either resign with the Colts or have much better options than us. Pickens I don’t know…the Steelers know what they are doing, especially at WR…they always seem to find great ones in like round 5, and when they let a guy go, there’s usually a good reason. Much like I feel about Kyler Murray, I don’t think Pickens is the kind of person we need in our locker room right now…we need hungry guys who are hard workers…both Murray and Pickens have issues with work ethic, personality, etc. I think with a locker room that is in the state we are in with the imbedded losing culture, those guys will have a hard time bringing it up. I’d stay away from both. Far far away. So to me, we NEED to draft a starting quality WR…it’s not a maybe. We are as desperate there as we are on DL. I’d love to see a pass rusher with our first pick and a receiver with our second first rounder….if we can do that, I’d come out of Day 1 very pleased.
That’s a good connection, and maybe that helps us in recruiting Don’t get me wrong, I like the player and would be happy to have him line up opposite GW I just think that any free agent receiver worth a damn will know enough to look at our coaching hot seat situation, and our pretty much non-existent QB situation, and that should be enough to make any good receiver with options stay far far away. This would be career suicide. I get we will have to overpay, and at least we have the cap space to be able to do something there, but I just think players, especially receivers, depend on the QB to get them the ball and the stats and the payday that will come with that. We have ZERO credibility there. Maybe this connection with Reich can help….would love that to be the case. We’ll see…
I think it’ll depend on the market. I don’t think Pierce comes here personally but who else is going to offer him what we will that actually needs a WR? Indy… but I wouldn’t blame anyone from jumping off that ship. I could easily see the Raiders paying him big bucks because they’re stupid and have the money to do so. Titans have a boatload of cash but who knows what they are. Then you get into teams that don’t need WRs so probably won’t get to where we (or the other bad teams) can get with money: Seahawks, Bengals, Commanders, Rams. Niners or Steelers might make a run, both need WRs and can make decent offers that might make him ditch the money for a shot at winning. Basically… the market plus Reich might get him here. I still don’t think so but hey, let’s dream together.
Agreed…I’d be very surprised if Mougey can pull it off without paying stratosphere ridiculous money. But yeah, we can dream However, if we don’t get a legit starting WR in free agency, then I think we absolutely need one in the first round. I am pretty sick and tired of our team trying to build defense first and always lagging in offense…it’s been 20 years of this shit. Enough is enough. It’s an offensive league…I’d rather lose games 43-28 than lose them 14-6
There absolutely IS a television series in there. If the "Jerky Boys" or "Trailer Park Boys" can have a show, then so can the "Practice Squad Boys."
