Cimini pointed out a connection between Brissett and Parcells. There’s already a Reich connection. I think that’s gonna be the guy barring a ridiculous demand from Arizona. I’m fine with it. Average QB, good locker room guy, familiarity with the staff. That’s the kinda guy you want in a bridge year.
I’m with Chambliss on this one. If you read the whole chronology of his waiver request, the NCAA really dicked him on this one. Especially given how erratic and arbitrary they’ve been with waivers. If they handled his request correctly he probably would have moved on and declared for the draft. But they dragged their feet until the last minute and then gave a half-assed reason for the denial, which took away his best options and made suing pretty much a certainty. It’s like the NCAA needed a good case to assert their relevance and chose this one. The only thing I’ll say in their defense - we do need an organization to administer rules, and if it’s going to be the NCAA, they picked the perfect case. Iffy enough on both sides, high-profile enough to send a message, dripping with NIL money to make collectives think twice before blowing up what’s left of their eligibility standards, so what you mention doesn’t happen - yet. My only issue is that they treated Chambliss unfairly, and I have zero doubt that was on purpose, in order to set the stage for the perfect case to try fixing an issue that they themselves caused. On the other hand, if Chambliss wins he’ll get $5 million next season, and if he loses, probably about the same. Either way, I’m not crying into my pillow for Trinidad Chambliss. I just hate the fuck-ups at the NCAA.
Chambliss needs more live bullets at SEC speed or he’ll fall victim to the same thing Trey Lance did. He should definitely go back if he can. Now, if he can’t and he declares he’s a major project. He shows electric flashes with his elusiveness, speed, ability to pick up first downs, ball security and deep ball accuracy. My concerns are his frame, his inability to process progressions that leads him to run as his second read. Needs to work on his timing on short and intermediate routes. On tape not highlights he certainly struggles progressions because of the speed of the game. He’s RG3 2.0 you see the electric playmaker in him but also see the small frame and the lack of trust in his eyes. He’s definitely boom or bust. It’s the same thing I felt for Lance when he came out.
Simpson is one of these prospects that you can’t really find too much bad in his game it’s more of you find a lot of “average” in his game. What I really like that is above average is his mental processing speed. You can see that he knows what everyone should be doing on the field and figures out what defences are trying to do as well. He definitely had good command of the offence. His ability to know his progressions led him to making good decisions with the football. You can tell this kid prepares for games. I feel he needs also needs more live bullets but if any 1 year starter can be pro ready it’s him. Now, where he’s average is with his arm strength, his athleticism, arm elasticity, accuracy and footwork. It’s not bad it’s average. He’s Daniel Jones 2.0 that’s what I felt when watching his tape.
My gut feeling is that Glenn will go to the free agency well the same way he did with Fields. I don’t think they will let him trade for a Quarterback unless it’s for a mid round pick. I could definitely see them signing Cousins and drafting Simpson. Which ironically is a good move for both players. Not my ideal scenario for the jets but that type of move has solid logic.
I'm hoping Reich has most of the input on the QB decision. Glenn has no eye for Qb talent as evidenced by the Fields signing. When it comes to the offense, Glenn shouldn't be in the room at all.
Yeah, agreed. I still don’t think we know enough about who Chambliss is. Sounds strange, because he’s passed just about every test so far. Plus, even though he took his team to the CFP, Ole Miss got to coast into the playoff against weaker second half competition. His first half is a better gauge. Best thing going for him - he did well against good teams, and rallied his team to knock UGA out of the CFP. I still wish there was a larger SEC sample to look at.
I could see them eyeing Carson Wentz for the same reason. Great idea if your 2026 goal is to be the best 5-6 win team in the NFL
Jets have 2 QB under contract, Fields and Zappe. I wonder if the cost of any free argent they might want gets very high, they decide to give it a go with these guys. i guess what I'm saying is, does Reich think he can succeed where others have failed? I don't automatically rule it out, all these guys have high ego.
Just saw the Cardinals are expected to pursue Malik Willis. If he ends up there, maybe they'll trade Brissett.
Maybe we follow the Seahawk model and NOT draft a QB until the roster is fleshed out with quality talent in many places. We have enough picks to completely rebuild the roster. Since nobody is expecting a SB run anytime soon, what better time than right now to rebuild the entire roster THEN draft a QB.
Seattle got VERY lucky Minny was retarded enough to let Sam go after winning 14 games and having a Pro Bowl level season (and I am not talking about Sanders Pro Bowl level, but real one). I mean this was just idiotic beyond belief. And I am not saying this in retrospect, I said this a year ago: https://forums.theganggreen.com/thr...h-back-to-the-jets.100610/page-4#post-4435494 . No one will make this mistake again. With the QB, whenever you get a chance to get a good one, you do it. Don't wait for a perfect opportunity. With all that said, I just don't see a way to get a good one this year. So, yeah, I would not waste major assets (like a first or second round pick) on a very low probability shot.
The better time to draft a QB has happened already unless you once again expect to draft a guy who's ready to go the day he signs. How about giving the draftee at least the better part of a season before throwing him out there and expecting him to have upgraded himself to NFL standards. Let the new guy work on being a starter simultaneously with rebuilding the roster so maybe they're possibly ready at the same time a year or even two from now.
Yeah. On the other hand, if we could sign a real-live cannibal to play QB next year, I’d TOTALLY consider forking over money to Woody Johnson’s great-great-great-great-great-grandkids to watch him live.
I’m in on this because the Seahawks model isn’t all that unique and works. Although, as Jets fans, the real lesson this year is that young, ginger QBs require patience. The best reds are always better with age and maturity. Also, when you can steal them off someone else’s rack.
Yet another huge lost opportunity back 3yrs ago. Could've signed him as a UFA when he was only 31yrs ago at the time. But Douglas & Johnson thought it better to help Green Bay laugh their a$$es off & piss away valuable draft picks/players for a washed up 39yr old drama queen in what predictably would turn out to be a complete hot mess inside a dumpster fire on top of a train wreck. Carr even showed some interest in playing for NYJ, ---- imagine that. https://nypost.com/2023/03/05/derek-carr-slightly-leaning-toward-jets-in-qb-free-agency/ I'd take him without hesitation if he showed any interest again & passed some basic eye test in a workout. I doubt he would consider NYJ though how we passed up on him when he was practically in his prime.
