I like the hire. I like that he's a ex-NFL QB, I like that he bring head coaching experience and coordinator experience. He should be able to help the Jets in so many ways beyond playcalling.
Looks like Fields will be done with this hire. Reich like a traditional pocket passer for his offence. it’s going to interesting who they pick and throw into the fire. I could see a McKee type trade and they draft someone as well.
Thank God. He's a ex-QB I love that he's on board. He'll be able to teach the young QBs about the position because he played in the NFL too.
I'm not saying it's going to happen but I listened to one of Mike Francesa's recent podcasts. He said he wouldn't be surpised if the Bengals move Joe Burrow.
How many first round picks will it require for a team that is in desperate need of top talent thru the draft to field a decent team. He is unaffordable to us.
I am good with this hire. At least it gives another adult in the room along with Mougie to help evaluate a QB if they decide to pull the trigger. Plus, him being on the staff won't demand a veteran that can mentor a young QB either this year or next. The downside is IF he's able to work miracles and the offense manages to perform well, he would most likely be back in the mix next season for a HC job elsewhere - can't be worried about that, happy he's here for however long...
https://x.com/i/status/2020179254726529237 Per Cimini ALL IN THE FAMILY: Seth Ryan has been hired as the Jets’ passing-game coordinator, per source. Ryan, 31, becomes the third generation in his family to coach for the #Jets. He’s the son of former HC Rex Ryan, whose father, the legendary Buddy Ryan, was the defensive-line coach on the Super Bowl III team (1968). Seth comes from the Lions. He was the assistant TEs coach. Prior to that, he was the assistant WRs co ach.
Odd hire, I did hear from an analyst a few days ago that Reich was really pumped about the OL coach we kept because he worked under Ben Johnson and Reich is apparently infatuated with Ben Johnson. So Ryan being the TEs coach under Johnson may have played a role in the decision (this is assuming he was the TEs assistant coach in 24).
That's exactly what this is. They are full on trying to replicate the Lions. Basically Ryan is a replacement for what Tanner's role was going to be, but Tanner didn't want to stay while being demoted, so they got a guy who was his assistant in Detroit. Reich apparently likes that scheme too and specifically made a point about his affinity for Ben Johnson. DC is also from Detroit with Glenn calling his Detroit defense. At least the plan seems clear at this point. Now it is full on NY Lions, no half measures.
Very on board with the Seth Ryan hire for many reasons. Ben Johnson shouted this kid out when he was 29 years old as being one of the driving forces behind the Lions play design. I am all for plucking from the Ben Johnson tree. What a long strange trip it’s been… But our destination is actually looking pretty good with some of these recent staff additions.
LOL. Yeah. But at least I see them trying to do it now full on. Last time they tried to bring very different things and force the fusion. Like Wilks' defense and Glenn's. Or Ben Johnson's system with running QB and a RB being QB coach. Now Glenn simplified it and I can for the 1st time see the clear plan. Reich stated he admires Ben Johnson's schemes and is a senior guy who can handle the entire offense, which apparently Tanner's could quite do yet. Tanner left due to demotion, but they got his Detroit assistant. Reich can also can see the offense through QB eyes, like Ben Johnson, who also was a QB before. Now, of course Reich, Ryan, and Hayden is no Ben Johnson, but with this and Glenn and Duker on defense I see a proper attempt to truly replicate the Detroit success to try to have a winning season at least. It will probably fail, but I can see the plan, which is the best plan Glenn is capable of putting together.
Gotta tell ya, I am with Borat on Glenn's hires to date. Maybe, just maybe, this guy has a plan after all. I guess we shall see...
