Like 20 guys must have declined so Shadeur Sanders was named to the Pro Bowl Browns QB Shedeur Sanders becomes first 5th-round rookie Pro Bowler since 2008 --- I actually like Sanders and was pretty pissed Mougey didn't draft him. But they might as well end that silly game if you can't find someone better than that. the pro bowl used to mean something. sad.
They should just let alternates participate if they want but they don’t get to put the nod on their resume. Tyler Huntley has an appearance on the team to his name too. He was 2-2 with 2 touchdowns/3 interceptions and 131 yards passing per game.
They really need to do away with the Pro Bowl at this point. It's been in sharp decline for decades now, even more so once they changed it from being an actual game of football to a grown up version of an elementary school field day. If the best of the best are not participating, then it entirely defeats its purpose.
I used to enjoy the Pro Bowl, particularly when it was post-Superbowl at the start of February. It just appears to be a joke now. Anyway, Sanders wasn't too bad but he had a horrible habit of taking brutal Justin Fields-esque sacks about 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage, usually on 3rd-and-manageable.
More related Pro Bowl news: Joe Flacco added to the AFC Pro Bowl roster And, there you have it. Two QBs who were on the Cleveland Browns' Week 1 roster made the Pro Bowl. And another former Jet makes the Pro Bowl as well.
This is just vote and popularity based. Sanders has a strong social media machine and likely a bunch of bots to increase "engagement". Huh... got me to thinking... 1. Unreasonably popular 2. Can throw a football 3. Unclear talent - could be good, might be a bust 4. Ton of hype around the draft Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the Jets 2026 "Pro Bowl" Quarterback - Shedeur Sanders!!!
Hahahaha. If it didn't already, the Pro Bowl has lost any credibility. It needs to be re-invented at the least.
It's lost all credibility at this point. Just think, had Burrow declined and Fields accepted, we could have had this as the AFC representation at QB: Joe Flacco: Week 1 starter of the Cleveland Browns; emergency starter / backup for the Bengals; 1st Pro Bowl selection of his career Justin Fields: Starting QB of the New York Jets, the 29th ranked offense; benched midway through the season Shedeur Sanders: Rookie QB drafted in the 5th round, started 5 games It could have been 2 QBs who were on the Browns' Week 1 roster and then the Week 1 starter of the New York Jets representing the AFC in the Pro Bowl. Wow.
They've reinvented the thing itself to just be fun and entertainment. They need to either reinvent the voting, or just remove all contract incentives around Pro Bowl appearances. Just lean into the "it's a fun thing" model.
