Mike got himself a head coaching job in St Louis. He is a bright young mind. It was the most idiotic move of all times to fire him and hire Hackett. But wait, according to someone here, we were all on board with Hackett LOL.

I am absolutely mystified that SOME people here believe MILF was not a good OC, and that he was indeed indeed the problem because he was unable to win with Wilson. Simply laughable BS to show how massively incompetent this organization is.. we can’t even figure out the talent from the scrubs that run the organization INTO THE GROUND, and get rid of the wrong people, It took a minute to figure out how valuable MILF is for McVay or any other good leadership. Good luck with this new regime.

Firing LaFleur was legitimately one of the biggest mistakes this franchise has made in the past decade. And we've made a lot of mistakes during that time.

I still don't understand how anyone could've watched the games and determined LaFleur was the issue. It's unfathomable.

Agreed. I mean, he called an offense in which Mike White threw for over 400 yards and Josh Johnson threw for over 300, in the same season. Even with just the most average of journeymen QBs, LaFleur was able to get passing totals out of them that were within the realm of modern day QB numbers (Flacco went over 300 for him twice to open 2022; Mike White went over 300 three times; Josh Johnson once, he even got a couple of games like that out of Zach Wilson).

If they could have paired him up with a decent, long term QB, we could have really hit the ground running at the start of this decade and would probably be in a completely different place than we are right now. Letting Darnold go and letting LaFleur go are the two biggest mistakes that the Jets have made in the past decade.

Sam was by far the biggest mistake. That is FQB who lead his team to SB, basically we've been looking for someone like that since Namath, had him, and fucked it up. Nothing else comes even close, including MILF. Maybe if he makes SB, but even then, he was not our HC, the moment he had remotely good season here, he would have been poached. Which is why I want offensive coach for us, so that we can keep offensive continuity here for a QB, who cannot be poached. MILF, if he were any good, was only temporary, plus never led a team to SB, so it is not as devasting of a loss as Sam was, no where near.

Also, both can be traced to the same root cause - JD. Well, Woody of course too, but JD was the one who caused this operationally. I know people remember MILF fondly here, but his last 5 games as a Jet the offense scored 10, 17, 3, 6, 6. And the problem was not just the QB, they played 4 QBs in these games, including Flacco, who is still pretty decent. Zach actually was the one who got 17. Just as big a problem was the OL. We had none. A team cannot function without some baseline OL play. JD didn't provide it. So, when everyone tells Woody QB is the problem to save their ass for another year, and then we score 10, 3, 6, and 6 points with other QBs, he thinks OC is bad. In reality MILF was not the problem, JD really fucked this team in more ways than one.

Which is also why I think MILF proved a lot more than Tanner. Tanner had a good OL all year, and objectively speaking Fields/Tyrod are at the very least 2nd string players and solid spot starters in the past, while White/Johnson 3d string at best, and at times when OL wasn't complete shit MILF made them look good. It was a small sample size though. Still, if in some alternate universe I could flip Glenn for MILF as a HC right now, I would do it in a second. Even though MILF is not a proven guy, he does have good potential I would bet on.

I'm just going to voice this as it's something that's been gnawing at the back of my mind for some time.

    Sabotage

    Now hear me out...

Woody Johnson is just like all the other billionaires out there, well, most anyway. He's a CONTROL FREAK. A narcissistic control freak that feels money = intelligence and know how. I, personally, believe nothing moves or happens in that building unless he signs off on it. Even if it's just a phone call to get the O.K. When he was in England, Chris had that and used it. Now, it's widely agreed that Johnson is a complete and utter buffoon. I'd wager that if his life depending upon putting together two coherent sentences he wouldn't be able to pull it off. At least, from a football standpoint anyway. He may not realize he's sabotaging his football team, due to his utter lack of football knowledge, but the proof is everywhere. How else do you explain the myriad of decisions that even the most dim witted of football people would recognize as folly? There's too many to count. The largest, of course, being LaFluer being let go. Darnold being shipped off, bringing staff and players on to cajole Rodgers. Some big incidents there but tons of tiny ones as well.

We've ALL said it countless times and I'll double double super double down on the statement, "as long as Woody Johnson RUNS this team, they will blow. Full stop!"

Noticed I said RUN. He's never going to sell. 3 or 4 incidents of his name in the Epstein files isn't going to get it done either. Unless some MASSIVE scandal breaks out, he and the Johnson family are going nowhere. ALL we can hope for us that one moment he wakes up and says, "I no longer want to run this franchise, let me find someone to do it and then I can go bug the Premier league in England." Sorry my English friends, better he go meddle there than here in the NFL. lol

Until that point in time, we will have our Aaron Glenn's of the world doing head scratching shit like firing his ENTIRE staff WEEKS after the season has ended, for all intents and purposes. We will have letting GOOD coaches and talent fly out the door only to be replaced by less than talent and/or decent talent that the team then breaks. It's a patter that has been going on since he basically took over the team. In the beginning it just took him a "minute" to get anyone out who had any of Bill Parcels influence. We now live with the finished but vastly flawed product.

Mike Lafleur was amazing. I was so pissed when he got fired and I argued with a ton of people over it.

Woody Fucking Johnson. BEST OWNER IN ALL OF FUCKING SPORTS BAY BAY

Think of it like that, let's say he stays, we don't get Rodgers, we probably end up with Jimmy G. MILF probably goes his brother route, where the team was not great, but he did enough to get a HC job. When it is a really good young OC, like we think MILF would have been with a functional QB and OL, he will leave sooner rather than later. Which is why we need to get a guy like that as a HEAD COACH. Then you get to keep him as long as he is doing well. We would have lost MILF the moment he had a good season here anyway.

Again, there is a reason some people keep moving the goalposts to what I stated there.

But to answer your question (again) pretty much everybody who wanted to argue that it didn't damn us that we made such a terrible OC hire because having a 41 Aaron Rodgers as your QB apparently trumped any need to have a competent OC in that offensive coaching room.

I mean....I didn't rack up 100s of posts on that topic here because the people I was arguing with on that were agreeing with me :)

And i can't wait until we make a halfway decent hire at OC so i can stop having to spend these offseasons arguing with the same people who basically cheer on these failed build attempts to fix our offense the last few years.

It's an offensive league these days and just like last year imo this upcoming OC hire is the most important one we are going to make this winter (since Woody doesn't seem to to want to hire a offensive guy as his HC). Hopefully we make a more attractive choice we can all at least somewhat get behind this time.
