Don’t get me wrong I don’t have high hopes nor am I advocating for us to go in on Trubisky for anything more than a trial type of contract. That said, Trubisky has spent alot of time on the bench learning from a very good OC in Joe Brady, and when he has filled in for Allen he’s played respectably. I think without a doubt he is better than Fields, and given how solid our OL has been I think Trubisky can make sound enough decisions to at least field a respectable offense, while still being young enough to maybe have a late blooming epiphany ala Darnold. I know Reich seems to be tied to Wentz, but Wentz is often injured, hasn’t been good in years, and supposedly is not a very good locker room presence. Malik Willis is the hot ticket it seems, and I think he’s going to cash in alot higher than his actual value, I think the risk is too high given his small sample. If Trubisky sucks, oh well. If he’s decent or good we still draft a QB in 2027 and at least have the luxury to let him sit and learn for a while.
As good as any other idea out there. And probably would come super cheap. He was at 2.6 APY as a Bill.
I'd be okay with MT but, I can see Wentz being signed if Reich is the OC. I just hope they don't trade for anyone. They need all the draft capital they can muster.
Would rather have Kirk Cousins who is expected to be cut by Falcons. Could get him for cheap heck I guess it doesnt need to be an either/or. We need backups and competition so yeah you could bring in Trubisky and Cousins
Matt Nagy already proved you can win some games with Trubisky. As he’s gotten older I’m sure he’s gotten even more risk averse which is a good thing for a stopgap QB. There’s just not much upside but he’s not a bad choice. I’d rather go with him than give Willis the big ass contract someone’s going to give him.
Of all the turds that will be available to us, he’s sprayed with the most Febreeze. Sure, why not? If Cousins is cut he’ll get offers from teams that can make the playoffs with him. He should have made it with the Falcons if not for us. Dolphins fight for a WC spot with him unfortunately.
I get your point and both would definitely be reasonable but Cousins is at the end of his career and not gonna get any better than he is, plus I don’t think he’ll be very good outdoors. Trubisky gives some stability with potential of upside. Not to mention I still have a bad taste about Cousins spurning us for MIN.
He also wasn’t bad. 5-3 as a starter (a FG away from 6-2) 62% completion, 10 TD, 5 INT Give him Waddle, Achane and a competent coach and he’ll get Miami in the conversation. He won’t get us near it though.
There are a couple of guys I just don’t want…at ANY price. Specifically, for me, I say HELL NO to either Murray or Cousins. Yes they are both better QBs than what we’ve had, yes they are both better QBs probably than the short list of scrubs out there, but I just can’t stomach guys like Murray (entitled, bad work ethic, no leadership, etc.) or Cousins (fuck him for how he played us before…I would not give that douche a fucking penny). These are off-field issues for me, but I feel strongly enough about both guys that I want them no where near this team. From an on field perspective, they make no sense strategically. Murray has been on shit teams and did not elevate anything and did not win, so there is zero reason to believe he would do that here. Cousins is on his last stages, is an average QB at this point, and also, like Murray, a douche. Neither guy does anything for us other than maybe win us 4-5, maybe 6 games. Neither is a building block for sustained success, and both guys hurt our position in next years QB rich draft. Now, I get that to AG, either guy would be a godsend as he needs to win some games to keep his job, but this is where Mougey needs to hold the line and make the call. But this is exactly why Woody is such a fucking imbecile. He excels at setting up situations where the goals are not aligned, and not all pointing to the North Star…sustained success. I say this because I’m assuming that (1) AG is on a VERY hot seat, and (2) Mougey is not. Kind of like when Woody hired Idzik and paired him with Rex. Totally misaligned. And it showed. Different year, same shit.
Looking in at his history now i was surprised to see Trubisky only started 5 games that one season in Pitt. Felt like that was a larger sample size for some reason. I want Frank Reich to come in and pick the vet QB off the low cost/commitment pile he believes he can best make work here. While hopefully doing a much better job of that then the completely green and in-over-his head Engstrand did last offseason. if that ends up being Trubisky i'd be good with it.
It depends. Does his mom still want us to call him Mitchell? Props for thinking broadly. I can't say I'd be up in arms with a guy who would probably come cheap and his worst is no worse than we have now. The only bothersome part is how so many of our QB solutions are in the category of - "Yeah, whatever. Let's give it a try."
Bothersome, yes Unfortunate place we are in, also yes Not a lot of options out there but I like the idea of a cheap one year guy like Trubiski more than selling assets for Murray, Jones, CJ etc.
I can see Kirk Cousins using the Jets to get a bump in guaranteed money from another team. He's had wild success doing that in the past. But maybe the Jets are willing to pay him way too much money to mail it in for a year or two. They certainly have the cap space now that the defense is dismantled. Now they just need to know what defensive scheme they're running so they can get players. I wonder what type of players the scouts have been looking closely at for the past year?
