https://x.com/snyjets/status/2016274547348275511 Listened to the pod as well, Connor and Zach think that will get done soon, once the Jets satisfy Rooney Rule, though not confirmed yet. What do you guys think about Frank? He did well in Philly, though he was not calling plays when they won the SB, then moved to the Colts in 2018. Did pretty well there 2018-2021. The offense was 5, 16, 9, 9. Had Andrew Luck the 1st year then QB carousel. Still made play-offs twice, won one play-off game, had 7-9 and 9-8 seasons. So far so good. Then came 2022. Offense was bad, he was fired after 3-5-1 record, but his successor went 1-7. Steichen, who succeeded the following season had 3 seasons so far with 9-8, 8-9, 8-9 records, no play-offs. Still I would say overall not a terrible record by Reich, especially given that Steichen, who is seemingly good, actually did worse. In 5 years with the Colts, 3 winning seasons, two play-offs, 1 play-off win. The two bad seasons are 7-9 and 3-5-1. Gets hired as Carolina HC, offense sucks. Goes 1-10 and gets canned. Tabor finishes the season 1-5. Offense was even worse. Pretty bad lass than 1 year stint. Skips 2024. Interim in Stanford last year 2025, they wanted someone experienced until they get a permanent coach. Looks like there was some exodus from Sandford that year. Won 4 games, which is slightly better than previous few years, when they won 3 each year. Offense scored 18.8 ppg, he called the offense. Seems a little less than previous few years when they were getting around 21, but this could be explained by the aforementioned exodus of players.
I thought he was a good coach and got a raw deal in both Carolina and Indy. I liked Engstrand though and thought his offense was fresh even if he needed to improve as a play caller.
I remember he was a top candidate in 2023 head coaching cycle. His Indy record wasn't too bad at all. He actually did a good job with QBs there. Brissett and Wentz had some of their best seasons there. Rivers was old and appeared finished the season before, but when he came to the Colts actually looked like his old self again. Even that last season for the Colts he had a better record in 9 games (3-5-1) than Glenn all season. Carolina fiasco is really what did him in. To go 1-10 with top pick in the draft is hard to recover from. But looking at the overall record, it's not that bad. Only let go by two teams, not 3 and 4 like Wilks and Wink But he appears to be a good QB coach at the very least. Of course we do not have a QB! But looking at his career I do not think he is total shit of a coach.
I think a lot of the same posters who will hate the hire as OC would be thrilled if, instead, AG had been fired and Reich was hired as HC. In other words, this hire is not going to be the weak link this season. It was going to take a lot of luck to win 3 games without him, and it's going to take a lot of luck to win 3 games with him. Nobody great was going to take this gig, so a C+/B- was about as good as we were going to get, and he's that. I'll keep my fingers crossed that he, AG, and anybody else on this staff shows out and proves us all wrong.
Thrilled? Not for Reich being the HC, but yes I’d be thrilled if we got rid of Glenn. I’d take having no HC at all over Glenn being here, I’m really not kidding. This man is despicable as a coach and honestly after laying blame on Wilks, and now pretty much his entire staff, I feel he’s pretty despicable as a person too. Absolutely zero accountability. This man trumpeted how it took him longer to put this staff together because he wanted to be sure he had the right guys, and now he fired them all to save his ass. This man shipped Aaron Rodgers out of here after a cursory 30 second question of whether Rodgers was ready to play football, due to his lack of confidence in his own leadership abilities that Rodgers might “have players looking over their shoulders at him in the back of the room”. This man handpicked Justin Fields and made him the day one starter with no competition even though all reports were Tyrod was outplaying him in camp. This man had the audacity to stand there talking about big ships steering slow while he watches a team in his own conference headed to the Super Bowl after going 3-14 last year with the same roster. Every facet of our football team has declined over his tenure, every player with the exception of a couple SpT’s guys and Briggs had their worst career year under Glenn. This man is a loudmouth clown break dancing on sidelines and giving reporters a hard time when he has done NOTHING! He is by far the worst Jets coach we have ever employed.
You could do far worse than him but the problem is we had somebody who could probably be better and longer term. He knows what he’s doing but does he have any idea how to run and design a modern offense? Especially without a quarterback? The whole thing is a mess. At this point none of it really matters, every person in the building will be gone this time next year
Reich is ok. Hard to get excited though because I didn't think Engstrand should go. Guy was Ben Johnson's passing game coordinator and we decided he wasn't good enough after saddling him with Justin Fields and Brady Cook for most of the year.
Welcome HC Reich! Cough… I mean OC Reich. This move is all about PR… AG knows if he goes 1-7 he’s gone and woody has an interm guy.
Yeah, it sucks Tanner is out. I thought he did enough to stay (not stellar, but compared to others seemed to have had some potential) and it's not like Reich is some savior. I suspect what happened is this: Glenn missed on every veteran surrounding him, like London and Turner, and it appears he felt Tanner needed some help and couldn't do the job by himself. In his situation, being a total lame duck coach, which good veteran would come to him to be a positional coach or an assistant? None, including Gruden. So he then made the position more attractive saying it will be HC of the offense, while demoting Tanner effectively to the role he had in Detroit. Reich bit, and came in to interview, but Tanner obviously wasn't happy and they had this discussion where they parted ways. Glenn picked Reich. Maybe he thinks Reich can do the job, while Tanner needed some veteran assistance. It would have been good if Reich comes in as a QB coach, while keeping Tanner as OC, but he wasn't coming here to be anything less than a play caller. Maybe at some point actual story comes out, but above seems likely to me based on the facts we know. It does suck to lose Tanner. This is a total shitshow, and we need to skip forward to 2027 somehow. I thought when Glenn was retained it was the lowest point for me as a Jets fan, now it is a little lower than that.
Wink and Reich are definite upgrades over the crap they had here last year. Glenn's putting together a proven, experienced staff and both guys have had recent success in the league. Solid moves.
Now if only he'd pay to get people in those jobs who have had something resembling success in the NFL within the past five years. Or, heck, I'd even settle for coaches who were actually in the league the past two years. This just looks like we need to hire someone who is able to take over as the Interim HC sometime around Week 5 or 6.
