Mac, like JD, was able to make that draft pick because it fell into his lap. He made the trade that he did so that he could go up and pick up the first of the scraps that the Browns left behind after picking Darnold. He doesn't get credit, just like JD doesn't get as much credit as some give him for the 2022 draft, for taking the obvious player that another GM just let fall into his lap. Any one of us here could have made that draft pick.

Maccagnan also signed a washed up RB after he took a year off from football.

For the amount of games at the helm, statistically, he is one of the worst GMs, 32-68, just beating Matt Millen 31-97

Idzik was terrible but was rightfully let go after (2) years.

Joe D's 2020 draft is preety dam bad. I guess Braden Mann is still punting, though

He gets credit for his "hits" in Round 1, which were consensus picks. His mid-round drafting was putrid.

Looking below at first round picks, obviously Douglas' picks should have had more impact on a roster than Idzik's. Douglas was given significantly more time and resources, yet produced 0, and his mistakes have compounded to where we are today.

    Idzik First Round Picks:
    2013: 9, 13.
    2014: 18

    Joe Douglas First Round Picks:
    2020: 11
    2021: 2, 14
    2022, 4, 10, 26
    2023, 15
    2024 11

its good to do a post mortem of how we got to where we are at, rather than arguing if Glenn should be the coach(when the decision was made weeks ago)

He also took a safety with Mahomes on the board, drafted Hack, I get all that, there was a lot of bad. But it is a fact he traded up, and it is a fact he got a great QB prospect that became MVP candidate and SB QB. That puts him ahead of JD, who got 22 year old Sam ALREADY handed on a silver platter where he did not even have to trade up or pick him. And he surrounded him with guys who got 306 yards combined the rest of their carriers, then traded him away, while compiling the worst record in Jets history. That is #1 shit material.

I don't know if Ryan would hire him now after Sam made SB. This would be the biggest joke, get the actual guy who failed and traded away young QB, who just made SB this very cycle, to be your GM.

He was a terrible GM, I'm not arguing that he wasn't. One of the worst that we've ever had. I can certainly be sold on him being the second worst GM that we've had, especially since Maccagnan can take some credit for that fun 2015 season we had when he and Bowles were in their first year. I think if Idzik had been given as much time as JD was, his record would have far surpassed JD's in terms of being the worst.

All four of the GMs we've had over the majority of the playoff drought (Idzik, Maccagnan, Douglas, and Mougey) hold a big part of the blame for where this franchise is right now.

You can add Tannenbaum as well. Tanny was a cap accountant for Parcells, he was never a player evaluator. When he became GM you could tell distinctly that he gave his coaching staff alot of weight on their picks. Mangini clearly had a profile of the type of players he wanted- intelligence and discipline were weighted heavily over athleticism. When Rex came there was a serious shift and we started drafting a ton of defensive players that were brash and athletic. Tanny himself was not much for evaluating the players. Even after his time here I remember him going on radio/tv interviews advocating that we draft Cordarelle Patterson at 9 overall.

But yeah, we’ve had a LONG list of absolute TRASH GMs…to go with our long list of absolute TRASH HCs

    Hmm…looking at the lists:

GMs = from Bradway to Tanny to Idzik to MacCagnon to Douglas to Mougey
HCs = from Herm to Mangini to Rex to Bowles to Gase to Saleh to AG

I hate both of those lists, but man, it’s a bit hard to say which one is worse!

This is the fucking dogshit that Woody has given us

I think, looking at those two lists, the HC list is considerably better.

    Which is really, really sad.

Yeah I hate the HC list also, but Herm, Rex, Bowles and now Saleh all got second gigs…mind you, I didn’t like any of them outside of Rex who at least won some playoff games for us, but you’re right…none of those GMs are getting 2nd GM gigs…I think Idzik got a role as did JD, but not as GMs…

Still…for those HCs who did get second gigs, Herm sucked at KC, Rex sucked at Buffalo…Bowles has had success at Tampa but I don’t think he’s a very good coach…he got lucky to be in a shit division where he won it a couple times with barely a .500 record…not like he was dominating a good division. We’ll see how Saleh does…

But yeah…I guess I’d say the GM list is worse … especially as that role has a long lasting impact on the team even after they leave with all the botched draft picks and bad contracts handed out

To be fair, very few GM’s get second chances.

Yeah that’s true…the only ones who do are the ones who are really good at it…Bill Polian was GM of 3 teams, I believe…Parcells had GM power at multiple stops, including us.

But yeah, the impact is too strong … an HC impacts the years he coaches but not all that much after he leaves, but the GM’s decisions on drafting and contracts and free agents etc. leave a much longer tail

Matt Millen was the worst GM in NFL history. Douglas was the second-worst.

It would be good if we had a competitive team in 2026. The end.
