As I understand it, Wink really prefers the 3-4 alignment over the 4-3 (which Glenn prefers), so I always thought it might be a strange marriage.

    This couldn't be established beforehand?

It’s actually hilarious because most D’s these days rarely play a base 3-4 or 4-3. Much like the criteria used to hire Glenn was completely outdated, both of these guys philosophy on Defense is completely outdated. Probably why Glenn has always fielded shitty defenses in DET as well.

One would think ... never mind. Here is the latest update: https://x.com/ZackBlatt/status/2016131504544391243

"The search for the #Jets DC, according to various sources:
    - Wink Martindale had been viewed as the favorite for the job since before the process even started in full. He and Aaron Glenn spoke before the season was over.
    - At some point in the last few days, Glenn started to tell some candidates for jobs on his staff that he might be calling plays himself on defense.
    - When the process started, Chris Harris was viewed as a viable candidate if Glenn wound up calling plays. Some in the building felt like he was getting a real shot at the job from the beginning. (
    @Connor_J_Hughes
first on the idea that Harris could now be the DC.)
    - Martindale no longer feels like the lock he did a week or two ago — but he's not completely out of the discussion yet."

Jimbo is not even mentioned. Based on this chances are he is not coming, maybe took the interview as a favor given Glenn/Mooge connections. This was a ling shot to begin with. Though the hope is not completely dead on Jim, that aside, I would much prefer Glenn to call plays than Wink. At least he had SOME recent success as a defensive play caller.

This whole thing is just a joke and shows how directionless this franchise is under its current leadership. If Glenn wants to call the defense himself, that's what he should have done from the beginning rather than bringing in all of these other people for interviews. We've gone from Martindale, who from reading this thread prefers a different defensive scheme to that of Glenn, to now Glenn just deciding to do it himself. And, then, we might still hire someone from the outside, mainly to give the fanbase another former Jet player to hang their hopes on, if they can somehow get Leonhard to agree to take this job.

All this search has done is perpetuate (probably correctly) the idea that nobody wants to work for this coaching staff and front office and reinforces the idea that Woody should have just cleaned house a few weeks ago and not put it off for another season.

Perhaps it's not too late to do it even now. Maybe Jim will actually come in this case. Imagine Kubiak HC/Leonhard DC combo. Tanner stays OC. Kubiak call plays. One can dream...

It's not happening, as awesome as that would be. Both Kubiak and Leonhard would be wise, for the sake of their careers, to stay as far as humanly possible away from this dumpster fire.

And the same circus is happening on the offensive side of the ball with this "Engstrand is getting demoted but is still OC but won't be calling plays and we're also hiring Reich" thing.

Nobody in the building has a clue what they're doing.

Agreed. It's made even more ridiculous by the fact that Reich hasn't had much, if any, success in the NFL in what feels like forever.

So, in other words, he'll fit right in with this franchise.

He'll probably be promoted to HC and be allowed to bring in his own GM after Glenn and Mougey are fired in January 2027.

The more I read the more depressing it gets. This team is a circus.
So basically the solution to fix our wows now, from a HC that failed at his job on year one miserably is to give him more responsibility to call the defense, and take away responsibilities and authority from the OC and run it by a disjointed committee. Who in the hell would even want to be coming to the Jets. Ludicrous. I hold zero hope. Wasted 2026 with this approach.

Agreed. The Jets punted on 2026 the moment that they decided to retain this coach and GM.

They really would be better off hiring an AI chatbot to be the GM, HC, OC, and DC for the upcoming season.

I can't wait until we can talk about anything football related without the same people saying the same thing over and over and over and over.

gets a little annoying for sure

every post is some combination of bitching about Glenn or Woody Johnson. I get it, like it was a tremendously terrible year on multiple levels but it would be nice to discuss something else

Not much else going on in the Jets world right now unfortunately. This is my soap opera, it's a complete shit show right now and we are just creating commentary "Mystery Science Theater 3000" style. Gotta give this team credit, there is never no news.

    "I hope we draft ____"
"Who cares Glenn sucks it'll be a wasted pick"

    "Bills hired Joe Brady"
"And dumbass Woody stuck with Glenn with all these candidates available wow what a waste of a year"

"We have three picks in the first round next year"
"Glenn will probably win 5 games and we'll miss a QB and no coach will want the job"

    It's fuckin exhausting.

You realize that's in response to the same bots droning on and on and on in every thread right? I promise you it's possible to discuss things without making it about Aaron Glenn.

No, it’s really not. Aaron Glenn is the ruptured aortic artery pouring blood out by the gallons. He is the worst Jets HC I have seen since Lou Holtz. We can discuss all the other problems on this current team, but there are none bigger or more problematic than Aaron Glenn. Even if we did have a chance to draft a great QB this season, Glenn is the biggest threat to that QB’s success. We have 2 years with of a dearth of draft capital and a ton of cap room and we’re wasting half of it with Glenn still in the room. Frankly all there is to talk about is the travesty of a fact that Glenn is still employed here. He fired his OC, fired 6+ members of staff, demoted his OC to the point his OC currently isn’t even sure of his role at all, and can’t get any decent replacement coaches to work with him because, unlike you and Woody, every coach can see what a disaster this situation currently is.

While I agree with your premise, unfortunately the news that are surfacing are all associated with the lack of progress on a no shit improved CS which like it or not is directly relatable to AG.
We are desperately looking for moves that are a positive stepping stone to massively improve this CS and help team performance. So far is fair to say the news and rumors are not encouraging.
