Can Glenn replace any of those guys with people that have actually done the job before instead of more 1st timers becomes critical for both the team and his job.
The fact that it was broken by a Texans beat writer is weird af. This staff is odd, I get keeping things close to the vest but they have to be hearing all the criticism, a little transparency goes a long way. This seems more like a child throwing a fitty.
Josh McCown is under contract with the Vikes, I wouldn't mind getting him and making him QB coach/asst HC or OC. Then, it's a promotion.
Glenn still has to prove he can assemble a functional staff. His evaluation parameters aren't the best as proven by his first staff which was a catastrophe. Anyone that thinks an RBC can moonlight as a QBC shouldn't be trusted to choose the next QBC or any other coach for that matter. He has no choice other than to get someone on the staff that knows their f'n job day one.
For better or for worse, he's here. He wasn't fired. So it's good that he is making changes. Agreed that bringing in people with experience to support him through the operation is a high priority. Fewer young ex players and more experienced coordinators. I would like every one of his new hires to have been on at least two other teams before if possible. A fired ex head coach would be a great hire for him,
Teams try this sort of lateral movement but you really have to now what you're doing. And you need to scaffold the person with a lot of support from yourself and other coaches. Not a first year HC.
Wonder is this is all Glenn's say so, or if GM is weighing in to let go, and bring in new staff. Hopefully this is a coordinated effort as Moug should be seen as a talent evaluator/adjunct builder of a quality organization as well...
If Moug is a quality GM then cleaning house on AGs coaching staff makes sense. Building the coaching staff, draft, and FA is all in Mougs lap. He can’t do anything with AG. NFL rule. On to the next losing season.
He’s setting it up so that there’s not a single person to blame but himself. Put up or shut up. I’m fine with this except for one part… potentially moving off Engstrand. Would be shortsighted and stupid so I expect us to do it. 10th ranked run game with no semblance of an NFL QB means you know what you’re doing. As I’ve said a bunch the tape shows that this offense should have worked if anyone with an ounce of talent was at QB for a majority of the season. And Hughes nailed this: “Top candidates weren’t picking the Jets. Certainly wasn’t gonna be the case if they canned Glenn after a year” Which is what I’ve been saying every time someone goes “OMG ___ is available and we’re sticking with Glenn!!”
If Aaron Glenn has now essentially fired his DC and his OC, why is he still the HC? We're now changing schemes on both sides of the ball after the first year, which makes the entire first year of Aaron Glenn's tenure completely pointless. Only the Jets.
