I agree on the size but when you can compile talent, do it. Wilson and Lemon is one hell of a young duo. Worry about rounding out the room later.
I think with the Jets QB situation, it could be hard to convince a FA WR to come here without reckless overpaying. I'd be open to Romeo Doubs or Alec Pierce, of course, but seems unlikely to me. Draft might be the way to go
They need a couple WR….and if they can get a head start with a FA signing so be it. Use most of the rest of draft for rebuilding the defense …
We for sure need 2 WR’s…a real solid WR2 to pair with GW, hopefully good enough that they could really be more like WR1a and WR1b Then after that, we still need a dependable WR3…I don’t think we have that on our roster…Mitchell gives flashes but still drops too many balls that he gets his hands on…we can make excuses for it with the terrible QB play but real WRs just don’t drop that many passes. Metchie has also shown a few flashes but has been invisible just as often. I don’t want to rely on either of those guys for meaningful snaps…I’d rather have them in camp as WR4 and WR5 and if they can get more consistent then great we have a WR3 battle. I do agree with the comments above…there is NO way we are getting a top WR free agent here. No way. I think they are smart enough to know AG is on the hot seat and until we have a QB worth a snot, they’d be coming to career suicide. If we somehow get a decent QB (I guess the most likely course for that would have to be a trade), then maybe it’s a different story. And while I do think money talks, I just don’t see a guy like Pearce, if the Colts don’t extend or sign him, choosing to come here when he will have WAY better options. Not happening.
The Jets will have a lot of FA options at QB, WR, RB, LB, DT, and other positions this offseason. I'm really not even sure I buy the premise of them having to overpay all that much. Guys want to get paid, especially those who've never had a big payday, bottom line. I like Pierce but he would cost us too much money at $30M+ per year. I would go a different route and address WR in the draft and take Surratt at 33. Then you'd have a ton of cap space without having to commit such a large chunk to Pierce or someone of that caliber. Surratt gives us that answer across from Garrett. Then the whole FA market really opens up to us and we can address several huge areas of need with above average, proven vets. That addresses a lot of holes on the roster going into the draft where they can really reshape the team with: 2.) Bain 16.) CJ Allen 33.) Surratt 44.) Chambliss Our defense will have some young future stars on it and these two first picks play explosive, fast and physical which we sorely need. Then we have the first two pieces of our offense of the future with the 2 ballers as second round picks. This roster is going to look soo different next year and I'm excited to see how it pans out. This offseason will tell me a lot about Mougey and if he's the right guy for the job. He is firmly on the clock. This is his show now.
Trading up from #16 to ensure we get one of the best and harder to miss on WR in this draft is basically the only (realistic) hypothetical trade up scenario I think I would get behind. Since reaching beyond that is almost never going to hit here in what is already a locked in bottom 3 offense. Which essentially won't change regardless who ends up being the flyer QB for 2026. They just end up loosing their shiny appeal and get written off as non-foundational pieces moving forward after do nothing seasons. Although again that is also conditional on us taking take a QB with one of those first 4 picks. If we do that then I'd like to see all offensive picks for those. If not then I'm basically going to be left rooting for the exact opposite. Without a legit revamp commitment to this offense that all can be punted to 2027
I don’t see much of a difference between Lemon and KC Concepcion if we’re looking for a quick slot guy. There are also some guys down the board that would be good adds. Trading up for Lemon probably costs us a second rounder and that’s silly IMO.
I wasn't really pushing for Lemon specifically as much as I was advocating for a go get your guy stance at WR if that is the guy you believe can be your difference maker #1 with that pick #16. I think a 2nd rounder estimate cost to jump the Ravens in the above hypothetical scenario is probably also a bit extreme too. The very similar jump Pittsburgh made on us a few years back to make sure they got their OT in Broderick only cost them a 4th. I'd be ok paying out a 4th for that.
Would you trade up a few spots for him? Doesn't sound like a prospect of this level would last 'till 16. Yeah, I would give a 4th too to ensure we get him. But I think it will be more. Everyone was saying Belichick took low offer to screw the Jets.
