Yeah, that was really odd, especially since there is video evidence of a giddy Beane praising Coleman at the combine.
I'd LOVE to see the Jets hire him oh my goodness that would be so awesome. And I just read the Bills owner is blaming him it would up the intensity of the Bills-Jets rivalry to it's highest level ever? Comparable to when the Jets got Parcells from New England? I hope he's still available for us in 12 months or who knows possibly sooner. .
They were in a similar boat to the one we're now in before Coach McDermott arrived there. 18 years without a playoff appearance the Music City Miracle was the last playoff game they played in before Coach McDermott became their coach.
I'm of the belief that the Detroit defense played so horrifically bad in perhaps the most important playoff game they've ever played (#1 seed game 1) he would've been fired as Detroit defensive coordinator after that game.
This dude is a excellent professional head coach one can just see it by watching him on the sideline. And if the Jets are bad enough in early 2026 that Coach A.G. gets canned the way Coach Saleh did I wouldn't waste any time bothering with a interim head coach I would hire Coach McDermott right away allow him to get a head start on this job. IF he's still available for the Jets.
He fell into a HOF quarterback and didn't win a Super Bowl. This is a results oriented business (for every team other than the Jets).
What about those of us (aka everyone but you) who watched the entire clip and still realize it’s a terrible idea?
Pegula fired the coach and the pitchforks immediately came out from local media, national media and the fanbase. The heat came because everyone felt that the coach wasnt the problem, it was the personnel decisions, the poor draft picks and the poor FA signings. For 3 straight days there was article after article, soundclip after soundclip of people going off that Beane was the one who should be fired for his decision making and the organization fired the wrong guy. The fanbase lost confidence in ownership and the GM, and questioned whether they'd be able to move forward with the same shoddy decision making. Come to find out that it was McDermott pushing for these player acquisitions which ultimately failed, and Beane attempting to give McDermott whatever he wanted so we could win. The question by the media to Beane directly was "many of us feel the wrong guy was fired, you've made questionable decisions in free agency and the drafting of Keon Coleman..." and thats when Pegula jumped in and said it wasnt Beane who did that, it was the failed coaching staff. It was exactly the right thing to say in order to explain the drastic move they made and why they made it, and to re-instill fan confidence in Beane moving forward (which he did since now we know Beane can actually evaluate players). It was the media who brought up Coleman, not Pegula, and the narrative of "they fired the wrong guy and are doomed" needed to be corrected. Are you saying Pegula shouldnt have said anything at all, shouldnt have told the truth, and should have just let the wrong narrative continue to build and build with everything they do being negatively questioned? As a fan, I want honesty. I want to know what happened and who was responsible so I know what's going on. I want transparency. I dont care about Keon Coleman's feelings, he is irrelevant to myself and the team in general. The narrative needed to be corrected with the truth.
I am 1000% positive you can convey the exact same message without singling out a player that's still under contract with you for the next two years. Your last little bit about not caring about Coleman's feelings explains your thought process. It's not a logical one if you're looking at the situation with 0 emotional attachment.
You may not know this, and that's ok because you're not a Bills fan so I dont expect you to, but Coleman has been suspended by the team multiple times in 2 years for missing meetings. He arrives late or not at all. He gives little to no effort when he's on the field. He's inactive most weeks unless we have some emergency. Street free agent WR's have played over him. When he was active out of emergency, he clearly lacks focus and drops passes (dropped a nice little touchdown in the Denver game I believe). He doesnt give a shit about being here or his job, and that's very clear. He will be off the team in no time. The Bills have given him every opportunity to want to be here and he doesnt want to take it, so no, I dont care any longer about the kid's feelings. That ship has sailed long ago.
it was an unnecessary comment from a mostly absent owner. The question was for the general manager and he interjected with the false, and very divisive, comment.
So you thoroughly believe in the narrative that McDermott is behind most of the bad personnel decisions? And that’s not just what the GM convinced the owner to save his job?
McDermott reports directly to pegula and they talk every day. Pegula is also in the draft room. He knows what’s going on.
