If he manages to score Daboll as his OC i'm going to be kind of jelly. I gave Daboll a lot of previous flack for the Daniel Jones stuff, but I also think he went on to get the most out of that scrubby Giants offense this year. Even freaking Tennessee gets to be in the running for decent OC hires.
You might be right, I never saw any signs that MLF wanted any part of Wilson, nor did Saleh, and when Wilson became a failure MLF paid the price instead of Saleh and JD. There was no way anyone in his right mind wanted Hackett except Woodsy to appease AR. All the body motion will tell you AR had no use or respect for Saleh.
I’ll be happy to be assertively wrong. Let me keep an eye on RS first moves, will he bring MLF back as OC, which kind of makes sense to me, or may be go on a different direction and make a push for Wilson or AR to help with a veteran presence.
That would be really interesting with both failed NY coaches joining forces in Tennessee. I would take Daboll in a heartbeat as an OC. And relative to Glenn as a HC too.
I am not sure, but I don't think either Zach or Rodgers were FORCED upon Saleh. Decisions of that magnitude are typically made in collaboration of GM and HC.
Are you under the impression that a team that has had historically bad finishes for over a decade is doing business in a typical fashion? Hey everybody welcome the new guy.
They sure make a lot of mistakes that are often of gigantic proportions, but specifically when it comes to this, you have any indication that Saleh and JD were not on the same page here though? They both seemed pretty genuine when talking glowingly about Zach early, and Bob looked in love with Rodgers, even wanted him to fly out to help weeks after he was injured. Again, I see no indication that Zach and Rodgers were FORCED on Bob. Do you, old guy?
What exactly would you expect him to say? I didn't like this guy, the oligarch owner told me to draft him? Wake up, dude, they have to tow the company line, especially when they never been a HC before. I do think he wanted Rodgers, whoever mentioned defensive HCs wanting experienced QBs is right, I think he was happy because he didn't have to worry about Zach being the worst QB he's ever seen anymore.
I just don't think at that time that Zach was the company line Bob opposed. Pretty much everyone wanted Zach at #2, including Shanahan, who was close to Bob, who wanted to trade up for him. That was a consensus by a wide margin: TL #1, Zach #2, and then really he draft started. So, that bit that Zach was FORCED on Bob is just not supported in facts IMO. JD and Bob always seemed in lockstep too. Plus we agreed he wanted Rodgers and that didn't work out either. Do you remember how he was gushing about Duane Brown, who caused that Achilles rupturing Rodgers sack? Yes, I blame JD a lot too, who was awful GM, but they were in a lockstep. Anyway, it does not matter now, but my point is that Bob wasn't some great coach here. He failed here, and it is due in large part to himself too, I don't want to absolve him. He may be looking like Vince Lombardi now compared to Glenn, but most coaches would. If you think he is a great coach, whom the Jets failed, let's agree to disagree. But I hope he does not do great with the Titans, as it would make the Jets look even worse than they are now, if that's even possible.
We can all agree to disagree about Bob and the QB selection. Bottom line, when it is all well and done, over the last twenty years, is safe to say every single coach and GM failed miserably. Perhaps Rex was the last guy to give us a glimmer of hope. The only common denominator over this dreadful embarrassing period is, you guessed it, the same sad ownership making the decisions.
May be so with Aaron, but my gut is 100% sure he didn’t expect to have Hackett shoved down his throat.
I'm sure Saleh LOVED having Zach as QB.... the only guy who couldn't run LeFleur's offense (and got him fired), especially having to defend him at PCs, and to the team... until they finally broke out the Mike F'n White shirts....
