Here’s my opinion on Simpson. He’s a very intelligent Quarterback so he will be able to get the playbook and have the ability to play fast. However, the lack of live bullets will be difficult to overcome. So, the only way we take him is if you have a solid veteran in front of him. Let him play all the pre season games to help with the speed of the game. The strength and conditioning coach needs to work him hard too. Not to loose the elasticity in his arm but to gain the confidence of making more decisive decisions in the pocket. He doesn’t have a canon but his arm is good enough. His accuracy is good but needs work as well. In high school when I have a rookie qb in practice we are Live for his reps. No red shirt BS for rooks, just live bullets and I want my DC bringing the house and mixing in cover 3. The Starter gets to red shirt but rookies are always live. Now, this is the nfl and it’s much different than high school but football is football and I feel if we take Simpson he needs to develop in practice and in pre season before we throw him in the fire like all the other QBs we ruined.
I will drive to the New York Jets facility and personally put my foot in Mougey's asshole if they do something as colossally stupid as throwing the farm at a "good" QB..
LOL….don’t worry the Raiders wouldn’t go for that anyway. That offer wouldn’t be nearly enough. I see Mendoza as a good pro QB but not one of those perennial pro bowlers… Throw a dart - draft a QB 3rd/4th round and hold the fort for the ‘27 draft. Build the rest of the team in the meantime…
Yeah…this seems to be the only option at this point…no QB other than Mendoza is worth the #2 pick, and while there are always surprises in the draft, and it’s not always the first QB drafted who becomes the best of his class, I just have such little confidence in this coaching staff to groom a QB. You have to draft towards the draft’s strength instead of your own needs I think, so as much as we need a QB, none are worth the 2nd pick. We have to build the team…personally I’d probably say Bain if we stay at #2, but I could also live with a trade down if it’s a good deal. We have to find a free agent or trade for a vet QB, it is what it is. I want no part of Murray even if he’s cut, I want nothing to do with Cousins in a trade. I’d be fine trading for Davis Mills, I’d be fine trying to sign Willis though I’m not sure he’d do well here with our coaching staff…and he’ll be expensive probably. There’s always the odd unexpected trade out there you sometimes see, so you never know, but feels like the best we can hope for is a hold the fort young vet with some upside (Willis, Davis) or else we’re looking at full on backups/scrubs like Trubisky or Mariotta, none of whom excite anyone. I get taking a flier on a mid round QB draft, but the odds of those guys making it for the NFL as a whole are pretty low, and for us as a team are actually ZERO. We’ve never done it. Ever. And AG is FAR from the best coaches we’ve ever had. So sure, we can draft a mid round guy but chances are he won’t even be a good backup for us…we’ve done this so many times with guys like Nagle, Morgan, Bryce Petty, Clemens, etc…we’ve never been able to take a mid round guy and groom him even into a decent backup…so a bit like throwing a pick in the trash, though I get the hope of maybe THIS time, THIS OC can develop a guy. I doubt it, but I guess you gotta try.
