Raw athleticism should still get you a couple sacks a year even if all you’re doing is bull rushing tackles every time.
Now we have to pretend Reese doesn’t care about football? Jeeze man. We have two top tier prospects available to us at two positions of extreme need. Why are we doing this?
Yes, admittedly I didn't really see much of his play during the season, so I made a focus on the Sugar bowl (NCS) game after seeing all the mock draft hype here.... Only 2 things I took from that game was 1) "THIS GUY SUCKS!" 2) "I can't wait to LOL at the Raiders when they draft a 1 trick pony at QB Then that draft day came (I miss Saturday draft day, as opposed to the bullshit it is now).... Girlfriend went to work and I had the house to myself. She came home and asked "How was the draft, did the JETS get good guys?".... "NO, they're idiots, I don't want to talk about it.... want a beer?" (I thought the trade up for Keller was stupid too)
I’m a complete amateur and often wrong about selecting players, particularly in the defensive side of the ball. But it seems to me that, when it comes to the type of player like defensive ends, tackles and LB for starters, the size and style selected is very highly corellated to the defense you want to run most of the time. Lighter DE and hybrid LB do not seem to fair well on a 4-3 but might excel in a 3-4. At this point, when some here suggests let AG call his own defense, I’m not entirely sure what that is exactly except massively inefficient. So I’m not overly optimistic in hoping we nail down a damned good DC with a philosophy along AG lines, and allow him to run it properly and engage heavily in helping Moug select the players that suit their system. All I know is that last year debacle took arguably a fair D and converted into a laughing stock, even with Sauce and Q at the time and got worst after that. It begs the question, was the issue really players talent or piss poor coaching. The later will not improve with draft choices, period.
