Yeah the Gholston name drop was solely for the Jets draft bust comparison from the same school. That being said, there's no way that Reese should go at #2, he hasn't shown it on the field in the biggest games against the best comp. Bain's production morphs Reese against the best comp.

Reese's best game this year was against a shitty Penn St team. He also had a very good season opener against a good Texas team so I'll give him that. Now compare that to Bain who had his best games this year against Ohio St, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M. He dominated all three and disrupted the fuck out of the offensive game plan. All top-10 teams. I haven't seen Reese have that same kind of impact consistently against the best teams.

The Gholston comparison isn’t fair though. Gholston had a wild amount of on-field production across his multiple years of starting at OSU.

Reese also played off the ball a decent amount. He wasn’t just a hand in the dirt rusher. If a team wants to maximize him, they should move him around.

All of the OSU guys make me nervous at this point too, even Downs. They won the second they walked onto the field against everyone except Indiana and Miami who they lost to. The counter argument is that they still played pretty damn well defensively in those games.

Less than 300 yards of total offense vs. Miami and 17 points allowed (7 were a pick six). They were bad on 3rd down though.

Only 322 yards allowed vs. Indiana, 13 points and the first drive was 3 points allowed on a 12 yard drive off a OSU turnover.

As the combine other things unfold see if it's true. Definitely don't want another Ghoston. Have to really look into it but everything I heard about Reese is he is the best player after Mendoza. If it changes then yes go for the best dend.

I know not popular and I get safeties aren't premium but would love to trade back within the top 10 get Downs (seeing what Hamilton does for Baltimore would love that) and get some more picks to add to the offense and defense. Not sure we'll have a trade partner though

I think potentially the best part of this draft is this Colts pick. While the #2 overall may not be as desirable as some years the reason that is may pay off handsomely on the other side when one of the "lump" of good players slides down to the Jets 2nd pick. Hopefully its somebody they wanted and fit into their system. Every year somebody good slides a little. Its just up to the Jets to figure out who that is and smoke 'em at #16

I was making the Gholston comparison for how I feel about how he projects at the next level and that's my view on it so to me, it is a fair comparison on how he projects.

Back to the crux of this thread, Ohio St has kind of morphed over the last 5 years into producing more top end offensive skill guys than on defense. They really haven't pumped out many, if any, top tier LBers in the recent past. Again, production over po. Bain over Reese everyday.

I know this is totally unpopular, but we could go super safe and draft the top OT Mauigoa and build one hell of an OL, helping us institute one hell of a running game with Hall as a bell cow for a change.

Who would move inside? Would have to be the rookie and I'm sure he won't be happy about it. Tackles don't want to play guard, not to mention if you pick the rookie we would be drafting a guard with the second overall pick, not happening lol.

It's not a bad idea in the sense of building a stronger line and he seems like a great prospect, but I'd have a hard time drafting somebody who would likely need to switch to OG at 2 or moving Membou, who was really solid at RT as a rookie, inside. The OL was decent last year and should be again next year. Defense is in dire need of help in almost all spots so this need to be the priority

If we use a fourth first round pick on an offensive lineman when we have holes everywhere but offensive line I might blow a gasket.

We dedicated enough resources on OL past few drafts. I rather trade down to secure another 1st rounder in 2027 and if I can't then take the best defensive player at 2nd. There is honestly no other choice we have at this time. Besides, OL was Ok to above OK, and it will look much better with better QB play. So to me it is already a great unit and we just need alternate players there this year rather than starters.

True. Trading down is preferred but might not be an option. If the OT selection was to happen I would move Membou inside. I know is not popular, but neither will be overdrafting a LB that might not even shine in our system. Whatever Moug decides, he will be under the microscope with this first pick.

All I need to see, drafted at 2, is a player who never leaves the field...ever. Defense, offense I don't care. When his position group is on the field so is he.....for the next 10 - 15 years. Bain, Reese...whomever.

What scares me about ANY current college player these days is they ALL load up on stats from nobody's, which most of their games are against, and we get to see 2, maybe 3 games, a year against real competition. It's almost as if their "on field production" is becoming nearly as useless as the combine. Even now, as I try to pay closer attention during the playoffs, is the performance I'm seeing a "one hit wonder" or indicative of what they can do on the Jets, day in and out. I don't know... I spend so little time on the college game these days. I'm really leaning on folks here and "marketing" videos on YouTube.

Feel the same way about Reese. He’s boom or bust. I see him more as a 3-4 OLB. I don’t think he’s a 4-3 DE at all or a MLB.

It would be nice to see a kid like Tate or McDonald slide to 16. A dream would be Love or Downs slides that far

I'm going to guess that two linebackers from the same school haven't been drafted in the top 10 before.

I’m glad you said that, it’s a common misnomer that Gholston was a combine warrior. Gholston was a beast for OSU. I vividly remember the game against LSU. They opted to double and triple team Gholston and went right at Laurinitis all night and Laurinitis could do nothing to stop it. Gholston got beat up in the media for not being productive while Laurinitis was hailed for making a ton of tackles. I can’t explain why he became such a bust in the NFL, I think kind of like David Boston he became more interested in bodybuilding than building a body for football.

He had zero pass rush moves, he never improved his game, he just bull-rushed everyone at the college level. There was a poster here that went by matt_robinson that posted a video before the draft of his tape breakdown and showed that he never once used a legitimate pass rushing move in any of his pressures.

Then he got to the pros and they wiped the floor with him because he didn't care that much about football once he got his payday.

Plus he ran like he had a load in his diaper.
