Like Junc said earlier, it's way too soon after the Abe fiasco. Maybe in a few years the feeling on him will be better. But Gastineau didn't miss games like Abe did. So he was always there when we needed him. JMO.
I'm about to sound like a retard but I wasn't around for the Gastineau days so forgive my age... What exactly did Gastineau do to gain such a bad reputation??
You are doing a great job w/ the threads but I wuld like to offer a suggestion. try to stay away from recent players and use the older players where the emotions aren't as fresh.
I like these pols. Kudos to whoever started them. They sure will help this offseason move along a little quicker.
Although I am not suprised that Todd is running 50/50, I am very shocked that he is running that low on positives vs. some of the other players. First QB to lead us to the playoffs after 12 crappy years....win 2 big playoff games on the road...hmmm....and look at Kenny O's numbers without the Namath shadow and not coming out of 12 years of darkness....inherited a much better team than Todd. I could be wrong but I do not think he even won a playoff game. Very interesting. I wonder how this group would vote for Pennington 20 years from now.
It was harder to watch leahy kick at the end of his career than John Hall. How about Raul Allegre poll
Except in 1988 when he quit in midseason, not because he was injured, but because he wanted to spend time with Bridgite Neilson. I remember that year - the Jets were in the playoff hunt and finished 8-7-1 and could have used him. That act of quiting on his team was far worse than Abraham not playing because of injuries. To say Gastineau was there when the Jets needed him is an extreme misrepresentation. Moreover, everyone on the Jets hated his guts. I have never heard a Jet bad mouth Abraham.
I always liked Gastineau myself, but I started getting into football from about 80-82. I lived in WV through those years so I was never exposed to a lot of the stuff that he got into, and there was no internet back then with access to so much information like today. I remember most of the good things he did on the field, and a couple of boneheaded things too. Knowing now what I know about the guy I am a bit more disappointed in him.
Alot of people would. He was all right but he did have a tendancy of blowing huge kicks..the question should be who would disapprove of Chrebet.....
i agree, i think we got the short end of the stick on the class of 84 qb's. i really donot have to much fond memories of kenny apart being a wr killer. poor al toon.
That was just a cover up, he quiot b/c he had failed a steroid test. I don't disapprove of him but I think he is vastly overrated by Jet fans.
I never had confidence in Leahy to make a big kick, even though he made a few over 20 years or whatever. It's probably a blessing he got hurt in time for that last Miami game in 1991, I doubt he makes both of the kicks Allegre made. Maybe one, not both. Of course if he misses the first there is no second. Hall I had more confidence in, the only real big one he ever missed was vs Detroit in 2000. He would miss the ones that could ice a game and it would leave the other team a chance, but in most game winning situations Hall was money.
