I could easily see one of those two guys traded before the draft. They’re both due new deals and neither have really proven to be worthy of one, plus you can replace one with a cost-controlled asset in Bain if you want to.

If they do draft at edge in the 1st, I hope they do then trade one of the current edges to get some draft capital or a player

Or get traded during the draft ….example: Jets trade up on second day or third day instead of giving up a pick they send McDonald ….

I don’t get the Will McDonald hate. He constantly performs when asked to. The team is hot garbage so it skews it but need a 3 de rotation.

He disappears for games at a time. Im willing to put that mostly on a horrendous scheme last year but this isn’t just a one year thing. I’d rather keep him and let a DC with an ounce of creativity figure out how to use his crazy athleticism but I wouldn’t be shocked if they’d rather have Bain on a much smaller deal and for longer (assuming we extend him in the next year)

I can definitely get behind pass rusher like Bain at 2 but I would also keep JJ and McD both…start Bain and JJ and bring in McD on pass rusher downs and slide Bain inside…

I would not get rid of pass rushers…I get McD does disappear at times but I just think he’s more of a situational pass rusher like Huff was than an every down starter at DE like we’ve used him. Not the best use of a first round pick granted, but here we are.

I would love to see this fucking coaching staff figure out how to put players into position to succeed…I get that Wilks/Glenn didn’t really have much of a choice this past year as our options at DE were limited, but I think if we go Bain at 2, JJ at the other DE spot a year removed from his injury, and then bring in McD on passing downs, that should be a pretty good DL if we can also find a DT somewhere in this draft

I’m going with Bain at 2 over Reese or Downs. His first step and heavy hands is nuclear. Even though I think Downs is probably the best player in the draft I feel safety at 2 would be irresponsible. Reese for me makes elite splash plays but I prefer a true edge rusher and Bain for me just has the most upside. That rotation would be nasty

At 16 is where it gets tricky because could a player like Tate/Downs/Love fall to that pick? I doubt it but it sure would be nice for once

This. You don’t pass up a 275 lb DE who is skilled. The tweenerd are the easy ones to find. They should keep all 3. Sign a big time DT in FA too. Draft LB and safety.

Think it’s going to be Bain and Ty Simpson or Bain and Makai Lemon

Can I ask, why no safety @ 2?

Isn't he one 11th of a defense on the field? Not sure how many of you watched that game last night (sf @ sea) but, personally, I want that defense. In a passing league, to me, a safety is AS important as a corner or a DE. If a safety is, in fact, the best player in the draft and we NEED a safety wouldn't it then be prudent, if you are going on BPA, to draft the safety? Oh, btw, throw the money component in the trash please.

I would have no complaints if we take Downs at #2

I wouldnt either but unless we know he is going to be a all pro for sure it doesn't seem like its worth taking him at the 2 position. Lets see
We need a QB on offense AND defense

He is the best player in the draft but I look at the Bills who seamlessly throw an UDFA at safety every week and they look great. Think it has to be Bain

    Wasn't Cole Bishop a 2nd rounder?

I think it's a borderline requirement in today's nfl to invest in at least 1 safety.

I would not be upset however safety just isn’t a premier position in football. Downs is special no doubt in my mind but I don’t feel the gap between him and Bain is big enough to justify taking him.

Besides QB the next most important position in football is Pass rusher and then LT.

So a lot of these early big board ranks I'm seeing have Jeremiyah Love ranked anywhere between #2-8.

Not seeing many people speculating this as a possibility, but in a scenario where we don't end up picking a QB at #2 maybe things could end up lining up in a manner where Love ends up being the flashy "new future face of the franchise" pick Woody might choose to lean into? Similar to how the Raiders approached Jeanty last year.

To me, a DE/pass rusher trumps a safety all day every day.

As long as the overall ratings are close, I’d take the pass rusher…just much more impactful position overall.

Especially for us, where we have dire needs at every level of the defense, I think you have to start with DL and move back from there. For us, a safety would be more of a luxury. Similar to having an All Pro guard on offense…do you want great players? Sure of course. But when you have needs all over the place, you have to start at the more impactful spots.

This draft is so important for the next 5 to 6 years of this franchise

Which to me is why you can’t go safety at 2. When’s the last time a defense’s entire identity was built around a safety as opposed to a stud LB or pass rusher? Kyle Hamilton is the only thing close and before that… Polamalu maybe?
