No consensus #2 player No #2 QB Take your pick of Bain, Reece, Downs all will help our defence no end, certainly more than Moore would do. @16 Styles, McDonald, Howell, Woods @32 Hood, Cisse, Allen, Banks, Overton, Hill @44 Abney, Young, Thieneman, Height, Mesidor All defence, pick one from each selection and maybe we won't get our arsed kicked on a weekly basis. Go out and find a competent QB in FA,
I think you gotta take a WR in there. I'm ok with 3 defensive players, but that WR room is pathetic. Gotta add a playmaker.
It is a fair comment and I nearly said you could add a WR if desired in any of the spots but I was just making a point of tightening the defence up in one fell swoop, well, potentially tightening it up, need a bloody defensive coach worth his salt.
I am happy he is staying at school. We can draft BPA which I trust Moug to do and next years draft we are loaded and tons of options for QB early. I also want that damn WR Smith from Ohio state what a beast he will be
Agreed in some sense. Deep down, I know we are more than two draft cycles away. I just know the QB position takes a year or two to get it…see T Lawrence, Drake Maye, even Josh Allen. So that stinks that Moore can’t start that for us. Hope with our cap we can get aggressive and get a Malik Willis and get a Chambliss too
The last bit is the elephant in the room though. Going out and finding a competent QB in FA is not going to happen. It never does. Why? Because good QBs are not available in free agency. They never get there with the rarest of rare exceptions. This year there is a lottery ticket is Willis. He is not slam dunk either, but he will demand a Fields type deal, maybe more. Are we going to give this deal again? Willis is no slam dunk. QBs look a lot better with guys like McVey, Shanahan, and MLF. How did Willis look when Charles London was his QB coach? And why would he want to go back to Charles London now? Other than him, we are looking at Mariota, Trubiski, etc... Not very exciting. We may trade a 3d round pick for McKee or Davis Mills or even Mac Jones (another guy who looked good with likes of Shanahan). The more I think about it, the more it seems likely that we will try to get Simpson at 16. The QB pickings are just so slim. As far as #2 pick vs #16, honest question, is Sonny Styles much worse than Reese? I only looked at QBs so far, and I guess I have to spend more time on Simpson now, but a lot of so called experts are saying there is a whole bunch of players are sort of close together. No one like Will Anderson available but a lot of good guys where top 10 (or even #16 or so) might not be all that much worse than #2.
Start learning Kyler Murray. Like I said earlier I don't like him, but like him or not he'd be the best QB to play for the Jets outside of Rodgers since Ryan Fitzpatrick (sad sentence to type). All he has to do is hit half of the blown plays from our QBs and we probably win 3-4 more games. I can already see it... Jets win a late November game to get our 6th win and this website is full of people calling for the entire FO and coaching staff's heads on spike for not tanking correctly. That being said, I much prefer Mariota. Respected guy in the locker room and competent on the field. Neither guy is durable so we need to shop for 3 QBs this season.
I’d rather trade for Davis Mills or Tanner McKee than sign Kyler Murray to any kind of deal…I just don’t like the player and while I don’t know the person, I don’t like all the smoke about the poor work ethic and he doesn’t elevate anybody…if Arizona wants him out, that’s enough for me. No thank you. To me, the options are probably either paying decent money for a guy like Willis, trading a mid-round pick (4th? 3rd?) for either Mills or McKee (and I have no idea if the Texans or Eagles would even entertain a trade to be honest), or signing a dude like Mariotta or Trubisky to start. None of those options are great, but the sad truth is they are all better than any combo of Fields/Taylor I just hate the idea of yet another wasted year…this “big ships turn slowly” talk track is total bullshit…we’ve seen plenty of fast turnarounds and with the draft capital and cap space we have, this should not take another 5 years. If we had a decent coach my expectation would be a respectable team next year around .500 or so. But with AG I just don’t see it.
The difference is competent and good, as you later put in Davis, McKee, competent with upside and maybe the potential to do a Sam and blossom. The real elephant in the room is London, who isn't or shouldn't be a QB coach. I don't really watch college football, I start watching highlights closer to the draft, so I'm not sure if there is a huge difference between the two LB's, if there isn't I'd take Bain at #2 and Styles with #16 we are desperate for Edge and LB imo as much as we are desperate for a QB. I would trade for a QB, Davis for me, I did like him before his draft and maybe take a chance on Chambliss to develop.
We're about to add 4 top-44 guys and have a bajillion bucks to spend. It's very conceivable that next year won't be a wasted year. If you mean in terms of making ground on finding a franchise QB, yes you're right and I agree. Very frustrating. But we have been in WAY WAY worse positions than we are in now and that's looking ahead even beyond this year.
People said the same about Abdul carter and he was meh. We have an undersized edge rusher already in McDonald, and I love Will tbh. Even JJ is lean. A tweener LB Edge would be a nightmare. A DE like Bain or Downs is the move.
I agree with @Jets79 - completely out on Murray. 5'10 guy who is injured and will not be getting any more durable with that frame as he ages, known for poor work ethics, costs a lot and we have to give up assets for. Plus Arizona who sucks as bad as us, wants to dump him. No thanks. As far as 6th win, yeah I think that is exactly what's going to happen. Incompetent coach who wins a few extra meaningless games to take us out of range of great QB prospect. Happened with Gase, and hell even this year, needed one of the two ST wins we had to be a loss and we could have had Mendoza. Next year I fully expect something similar to happen again with the 4 top 44 picks as you said. People are and will be calling for AG's head because he is incompetent HC, not because he could not tank. The fact we always manage to win an extra meaningless game to take us out of a QB who could change our fortunate is not on a HC, it's just the Jets shit karma.
I have to repeat this again... I don't want Kyler Murray. But Arizona has plenty of financial reason to want to move on from Murray on top of the fact he's been average at best. So "Arizona wants to dump him" isn't a great barometer. The rest of the reasons listed are why I don't want him. I guess what I'm saying is everyone should prepare for it now to mitigate the complaining later. And 6 wins in late November for a team with a below average QB and rookies everywhere would probably say the opposite about the coach. But honestly I have no desire to have a convo about what might happen next November and how it relates to Glenn on 1/16/2026.
Yeah, I’m way more down on AG than you are, and that’s why I think it’ll be a wasted year. I don’t think a decent coach puts out what we saw this year. And I’m not talking about wins. I’m talking about how utterly incompetent we looked on both offense and defense…this was not just about how Fields sucks. It’s way deeper. I would have been much more on board with Glenn if we had a season like New Orleans had…still a losing season, but they got better as the year went on and showed at least enough to give you hope. We were the opposite. And yes I get we got rid of 2 defensive all pro’s and started an undrafted QB in the last few games but we looked just as useless and incompetent before that when we started the year. I called the year over when we were 0 for September. It was plain to see. So yeah, I think when you are in the conversation of “well let’s see, is he as bad as Kotite or Gase?” To me, if you are even having that conversation, then the answer is of course YES he IS that bad. Let’s cut our losses and move on. I wouldn’t hire Kotite or Gase again. I don’t want another year of AG either. This isn’t going to end well…
I have no desire to get into any Glenn discussions but I'll say again it's highly conceivable that with a competent QB and a few impact pieces on defense, we're winning 3-4 more games this year than last. A lot will depend on the DC hire. I'd say 75% of it really. I don't worry about the offense anywhere near as much.
