That play where Dante Moore winded up and his arm hit his own running back causing him to fumble was very Jets-like. It's as if he knows he will be here next year
Agree with most that are saying Reese. The little research I've done on him. LB that can play edge. Be a huge addition for us. Exactly what we need. Him Sherwood and maybe a veteran addition lb core would be good. I do like Moore but feel the Jets can upgrade so many positions get the right veteran qb and we could be a respectable team that wins 6 games and starts building something.
Ron Wolf said draft a QB every year. That's lead the Packers from Favre to Rodgers to Love. I'm of firm belief that we have to do the same. We can't leave any stone unturned. When you have a chance to draft a prospect as highly-rated as Moore you have to do it. What you do from there is what matters. You'd like to think the plan is very very obvious and that we'll follow it (let him sit a year, or most of the year, behind a competent bridge QB that he can learn from) but historically, we fuck it all up. That's a bad reason to not do what any other franchise would do. Take Moore at 2, if he's terrible you have three first round picks next year and probably a high 2nd, take another one. Would suck to waste a massive asset on a bust but would suck even more to waste a massive asset on a bust that isn't a potential franchise QB. You can pick apart draft picks as much as you want, there's nothing clear cut that tells you what to do outside of the philosophy that you leave no stone unturned to find a franchise QB.
I have a hard time understanding the logic though. Draft a QB, ok, sit him for a year, fine. Then next year draft another QB if we are not satisfied/good enough. How are we supposed to know if that QB is good enough if he did not play for a year?
Hard to make the draft a QB at 2 and sit him for the year point in the same breath as retain Glenn as the head coach. There is just absolutely no way Glenn can afford to draft a QB at 2 and sit him for a year with his job on the line. Noone can argue he's not on the hot seat going into next year, that's the crux of the issue with keeping him. Desperate coaches make desperate moves.
problem with that is you have guys 10 years in that you aren't sure if they are the one or not. If the Jets draft Moore in 2026 they are not going to know if he's the "franchise QB" by April of 2027
I think you punt on the QB at 2 and hopefully seek a trade down. It might not be there so you’re stuck with a top notch receiver, edge rusher or Caleb Downs. There are worse problems to have. At this present moment, I just don’t see Moore developing (regardless of the franchise) into a good NFL QB. The position is usually a bit more than throwing a nice ball. It’s hard to overlook the fact that Oregon outflanked everyone they played in terms of talent by probably a pretty wide margin except for Indiana. If you look at the tape he didn’t hit a ton of tight window throws and a lot of his big games were tossing bombs down the field to wide open 5-stars. Great arm, great release and seems like he understands on a basic level how to layer the ball. Poor pocket presence in my eyes and a bad QB under pressure when he’s not standing in front of a straight line wall.
Yeah…I’m no expert…the only game I watched is the Indiana playoff game but I came away with a resounding He’s Not Ready. The moment was too big for him…looked out of sorts and not comfortable at all. And the defenses in the NFL will be a lot better than Indiana. The problem is we have an HC on the hot seat who will be desperate to win, and while starting a raw rookie QB most likely does NOT lead to wins, it DOES give him an excuse if he can even show a little bit…the coach would use that to say he just needs some time. I have ZERO faith that Glenn can coach up a guy like Moore. Shit, he made a terrible QB in Fields look even WORSE than he ever looked before…which is a bit baffling to even think about. There is ZERO chance AG would succeed in developing Moore. Zero. If Woody had any shred of common sense, and fired Glenn and replaced him with any of Stefanski, McCarthy, Kingsbury, Kubiak, I’d say yeah go all in and trust these offensive guys to develop Moore. But Glenn? After the shitshow we saw last season? No fucking way.
I should have prefaced that I think the best route in drafting a franchise QB is to have him begin with an offensive minded HC. Your example references Saleh, a former Defensive Coordinator with no clue how to develop a QB.
It sucks to have to know for a fact that we will suck again next year, but I think you get your qb in the 27 draft. Build his welcoming committee this year. I don’t even watch college football, but I know moore needs a franchise that can develope him. We don’t do that here
As long as we don't do something stupid like surrendering a 2027 pick to trade up I am OK with Mougey picking whoever they like at 2 and other spots. I trust Mougey. As long as he drafts well, we will have a better roster for 2027 along with 3 first rounders in 2027. Just don't let Glenn do anything stupid and surrender any of the 2027 picks please. If anything use either the 16th or 33rd pick to trade down to score another pick in 2027. But Glenn is desperate and he won't allow that.
Ideal situation is we trade back. However, that can be easier said than done. Let’s hope Cleveland falls in love with Moore and they send us #6 + #24 to move up. At 6 take Downs/Love/Tate At 16 take Faulk/Bailey/Styles At 24 take Allen/Proctor/Lemon At 33 take Banks/Cisse/Hood At 44 take Overton/Hill jr/Miller
If we get no partner for me it comes down to Bain or Reese at #2. Bain first step and size at DE is really nice
I agree that was not a great game, I would rate C/C-, but I don't think this was an F, especially given the competition. Like I said before, Mendoza faced defense like that before in Ohio St and put out 13 points, including a bad INT on 25 yard ln causing a TD. Because his defense though held the other team to only 3 more points and they won, he is not criticized. Against grate defenses performances like that happen even with top prospects and it happened to Mendoza too. Also, what's important to keep in mind, this was Dante's 3d play-off game, and he played well in two of them. So, I would not say the moment was too big, he did step up two other times in play-offs in big moments, and Oregon did better than their rankings (beat higher rated TT, which has great defense too), and definitely better than preseason rankings, largely due to him. As far as development, yes, he is 20 years old and needs to be developed. Our coaching stinks, and it's fair to say will not develop him next year. But that is where Sam's comparison is a perfect one: Sam was not ruined after the 1st season. In fact he showed some flashes and made the job attractive for the new HC. Had that HC (and GM) been good, things could have gone very differently for us. So yeah to me, draft the highest success probability QB, which is Dante, and you have to draft him with #2 pick, because Mendoza goes #1, and even though there is drop off there, there is a big drop off after Moore too. And then the hope is that Moore sits for half a season, shows some flashes in the second half 2026 and we will get a real coach who could develop him in 2027.
